You can go to this site and it may help you make a decision. You could also

Read Dr. Andy Cutler's book " Amalgam Illness. " Moria's site gives you a

good summary.

We use only ALA every three hours as our son is a very reactive kid. I'm

pretty sure regarding DMSA/DMPS you go with one or the other and not both.

Whichever you choose, you then at some point add in ALA to remove mercury

from the brain. Once you do add ALA, you must dose them both on the

half-life of the ALA, which is every three hours.

Thanks Haven...

Do you have to chelate the metals that are in the body first (using either

DMPS/DMSA) before you start to chelate the ones from the brain (using ALA)? Or

does it not matter?

Sorry...Im very new to this...I have the Amalgam Illness book...but am getting a

big confused. Thanks...I will check the moriam site.

Cheers!

Well there are pros and cons. If you use ALA only, there is the possibility

that some lead will get carried to the brain, but lead doesn't bind like

mercury I don't think or have the same issues as mercury, so in our case --

with a very reactive kid, we decided to go with ALA only. If you don't have

a child with a lot of asthma or who doesn't react allergically to a lot of

stuff, it might be better to use DMSA first and add in ALA later. DMSA will

chelate lead, and it doesn't cross the BBB.

Our son reacted badly to IV chelation using DMSA and then using DMPS, so we

were a little nervous about using these to begin. ALA alone is working

really well for our son. We are seeing improvements.

Be sure you have a good yeast protocol in place. we re using GSE and

biotin. Adding ACE for adrenal support has really just blown us away in a

positive way! For the first time in nine years our son has not been sick

and has only needed his rescue inhaler three times in seven weeks. (it was

just two, but he needed it last night).

Stimming has been greatly reduced. It flares on days 2 and three post

round, but I upped his GSE and that helped, so I am thinking it is yeast.

Also, if you give GSE and see red cheeks and ears, that is a phenolic

issues. You give No Phenol Enzymes with the GSE and that helps.

I hope to add DMSA at some point. Things are going great for now. I

started feeling a little greedy and thought of upping his dosage, but thanks

to advice from some other moms, I decided to wait.

We are on round eight and things are going great.

Hello Haven,

Wow..thanks for all the great information! I am glad to hear that your son is

doing well! Can I ask you what brands you are using for all the different

supplements you just mentioned? I know that GSE taste pretty bad...I just

recently taught my daughter how to swallow pills...but I dont think she can

swallow big pills..and from what I know GSE are drops that are quite bitter

tasting? Is the one you have better tasting? =)

I have a question about yeast protocol. My son never had yeast issues. Do we

have still do yeast protocol whilst doing chelation? Will start DMSA soon.

Thank you.

We use a capsule form of GSE from Kirkman's.

I use THORNE brand ACE.

I found a citrate form of magnesium that is a large caplet from Herb Mart.

I have a morter and pestal and I grind it and divide it into two smaller

capsules just as I do the ALA. We use the Kirkman 25 mg brand and divide in

half into two empty capsules. I got the NOW brand of empty capsules at the

health food store. I think you can find different sizes (smaller) if you

order on-line. Or I buy ALA at WF, which only has 50 mg as the smallest

they sell, but I divide those capsules into four empty ones. I think most

places are cheaper than Kirkman's.

We buy most of our supplements from Kirkman's just because it is more

convenient than having to drive 60 miles to WF. But next time I go to buy

my son's food there, I am going to start trying to buy as much there as I

can to save some money and especially shipping charges.

Everything we give is in capsule form except the EFA (flax). I bought OOO

and OLE in liquid form at the health food store but I haven't introduced

these yet.

One or the other. DMSA is available without a prescription. DMPS requires a

prescription.

Hello...

I am a bit confused...are you supposed to do DMSA every 3-4 hrs in addition to

DMPS every 8 hours or is it only either DMPS or DMSA? It seems most people do

DMSA every 3-4 hrs ...can you just only do DMPS every 8 hours instead of the

DMSA every 3-4 hrs? Thanks!
