Guest guest
It is a beneficial strep strain (you'll find in all yogurts), but kids with PANDAS can have bad reactions to it. If PANDAS is an issue, Id look for another probiotic without it. Klaires ahs some strep free ones as does Custom probiotics. Karla > > Hi, > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood and urine test for my son. All came normal except the presence of strep. The ped. suggested antibiotics for 10 days. I did some research on my own and just realized that the Multi-flora probiotics ( started 2 months ago) that he gets from Kirkman has Streptococus thermophilus strain in it. I called Kirkman and they said this is the good strain not the one that causes strep throat. What do you guys think? Shall I stop giving him this probiotic? I am planning to call Monday the doctor and see if she can confirm what Kirkman told me. But I wanted to know if anyone in this group has had the same experience and what did they do about it. > > Thank you! > Mimoza >
Guest guest
dr usman recommended to us that I not give my son any probiotics with the strep strain in them... I think what is ok for most individuals doesnt seem to be ok for many of our kids. I would ask kirmans for tests that prove that this strain they have is ok for our children.... my son reacts to all yogurts, soy, coconut etc, they all have this strain of strep in them also... > > Hi, > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood and urine test for my son. Guest guest
Streptococus thermophilus is like the plague for my son. If your child has immune issues the body may not be able to differentiate between " good strep " and " bad strep. My son seriously regresses when exposed to Streptococus thermophilus. Guest guest
Strep Thermophilus is supposed to be the good strep that protects from throat infections and dental decay - so it's good for a lot of people. But I think some people have an issue with any type of Strep - it's a bit individual - probably OCD type symptoms as seen for people with PANDAS would be a clue to be avoiding all Strep. Have you seen a difference in any symptoms connected to giving the Probiotic? Was the Strep in the blood or in the urine? Guest guest
Good afternoon, all, My son was taking VSL #3 that has the strep strain. We have been doing blood work for the last year and a half. We never had an issue with Strep until this last test. I checked the last blood test (Sept 2009) prior to this one and again no issue with strep. However, we started VSL #3 after this the Sept 2009. I do know that VSL #3 has brought my son's beneficial flora to 4+ per our Stool Test in Feb/March 2010. Here is the issue. On that same Stool Test, we saw the Strep B be at a 3+. When our blood work from April 2010 came back, the ASO and DNASE B antibodies were elevated to reflect " PANDAS " elevations. Two doctors who reviewed the tests stated PANDAS. All I know is that I am stopping VSL #3 and switching to Klaire Labs Detox Probiotic without the Strep strain just to be safe. We are doing Olive Leaf Extract and homeopathy to address the Strep B. I have a script for antibiotic if I need to go that route. Hope this helps, Jerry > > > > Hi, > > > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood > and urine test for my son. Guest guest
Gail, thank you for your post! I have not seen any OCD symptoms, except cold sores and dry lips last week-he has herpes. He does have some tics though which I attributed to 4 DAN chelation rounds very high doses. I am not sure if the doctor found the strep in blood or urine, and these are questions I will ask my doctor on Monday. Are there specific test for diagnosing PANDAS, which I am not familiar at all, but I will start reading now? Thank you, Mimoza > > > > Hi, > > > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood > and urine test for my son. Guest guest
Thank you Jerry. This is very informative for me. Did you order the stool test on your own? If yes, which lab and what's the name for it? Or did the doctor order it? I just need to figure out if my son has PANDAS or not? Or is the presence of strep good enough to say he has PANDAS? Sorry for my somewhat ignorant question. Mimoza > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood > > and urine test for my son. Guest guest
All I know is that I was trying to get my son on a higher number probiotic and it had the strep strain in it (I didn't realize it until later because instead of saying strep it abbreviated it to just an " S. " and he got diahhrea almost immediately so I yanked him off of it. He normally never gets diarrhea. > > Hi, > > I am in round 7 of AC chelation(DMSA+ALA) and this week did some blood and urine test for my son. All came normal except the presence of strep. Guest guest
Good evening, My doctor ordered per my request. The stool test is usually referred Comprehensive Stool Analysis. The test was from Doctor's Data. I believe Genova Diagnostics has one. Great Plains Lab has a stool test also. But Great Plains, I think send it to Doctor's Data. (The reason I say this is because I did a Great Plains stool test and the result looked just like Doctor's Data format and, from memory, I think I saw Doctor's Data on the result). I don't know if a single test for PANDAS. I do know that the ASO and DNASE B antibody from blood test are a good indicator of strep and possibly PANDAS. We did our ASO and DNASE B testing via Quest Diagnostics. I did an immune panel and a NK cell activity test. I am going to see Dr. to see if with all these tests my son has PANDAS or just strep B. I am seeing Dr. to get a protocol perspective. I don't know if you can state that the presence of Strep equals PANDAS. I do know that my son had Strep A but his ASO and DNASE B antibody were not elevated. Now, my son has Strep B and his ASO and DNASE B are elevated. I wish I knew the definitive answer. I think elevated ASO and DNASE B places you in a greater disposition of having PANDAS. Guest guest
One of my sons has the same issue with strep. He has at different times tested with abnormally high ASO or DNase B antibodies. For him, symptoms include a finger-rubbing tic, agitation and OCD traits like wanting everything to be immaculate. Staying away from S. Thermophilus in probiotics is a must for us. The other things we have done: Zithromax (1 course followed by weekly doses for 4 weeks) - not effective long-term Homeopathic strep in high potency (once) - helped for awhile Lumbrokinase+OLE or Enzymatic Therapy Phyto-Biotic 1/2 hour later (occasionally) - helps manage symptoms which leads me to believe the strep bacteria is in gut biofilm. I try to do this more during chelation rounds. Skipping daily calcium supplement - biofilm uses calcium and magnesium and iron for structural integrity. He needs the magnesium so we use magnesium malate (may have some benefit for aluminum removal) and Epsom salt baths. But he has lots of green leafy vegetables and calcium only after DMSA rounds IP6/Inositol (when symptoms flare) - to increase NK cells and immunity Zinc monomethionine (1-2x a day) - also for immunity Getting metals out will hopefully get his immune system working better.
