The study indicates that curcumin, an effective > antioxidant, may have a protective effect through its routine dietary > intake against mercury exposure. No question that there is a lot of research about curcumin being good for many health reasons, but mercury-toxic people need to use it with caution. For those who have high cysteine, like me, curcumin will push it higher and make people feel worse. I love curry and ate loads of it for years. I never had any reason back then to think that it was doing me any harm, but for years my neurological symptoms kept getting worse - blinding headaches that came out of nowhere, vision problems, aches, pains, bizarre rashes that would come & go etc... Andy has written about cysteine levels, which are important to figure out before taking too many foods or supplements that are high cysteine. From what I've read, curcumin can be beneficial for mercury-toxic folks with low cysteine, but others have to be careful using it.
