Guest guest
To all, I am sort of new although I have read and posted on this group before. My name is Fran and I have chronic lyme disease lately I have not been doing very well I am on IV Claforan and Flagyl and having major herxes. Why is it that you feel worse during treatment than before? I felt better before starting antibiotics in January,2000 when I got diagnosed. I have not been able to return to work for 4 months as a CASE MANAGER RN. In response to the post by Marta regarding case managers it's a good thing as Barb said if you have someone who knows Lyme or who is willing to learn. As a case manager myself the job is very morally ambivalent. There are the insurance companies who are uup you a-- and wanting to save money (you didn't hear this from me) However it is a good thing because she/he will be the one to be in touch with you to see how you are feeling and will push for you to get what you need and will be in touch with all of your medical providers and also will coordinate everything. Believe it or not I have a case manager on my case and she never calls me but does approve what I need so far I have to do all the coordinating myself so this one is for the birds. Hope I helped and I really hope to be active in this group . Fran

Guest guest
Thank you . All that at the bottom was mumbo jumbo to me but that was just my brain being in over drive. So I do I determine what it is and what I need to do? Children with Downs Syndrome are hypotonic...low tone...so we know that the oral sensory system under-registers sensory information...This is going to make motor planning difficult because the articulators are not getting adequate feedback... So, you have to start with an oral sensory diet (I posted mine on my website www.speechkids.net) ... followed with oral motor planning functional activities including: blowing/sucking exercises feeding therapy oral/facial postures and movements accurate vowel productions syllable and sound drill Your child may also benefit from trunk and shoulder girdle work to strengthen the base for the speech musculature as well as increase respiratory support... At this point, it will be easier to tell if there is cortical dyspraxia...because the speech productions will be idiosyncratic and the timing of the larynx and velum will be difficult to control...If this happens, then a praxis program should be initiated... I cut and pasted this piece about core deficits, because these are the areas to work on - not really the " Downs " or the " Dyspraxia " : It is critical to identify core deficits such as low-tone, oral sensory dysfunction, oral motor dysfunction, motor-planning difficulty, feeding skills, word retrieval problems, auditory processing dysfunction, lack of respiratory support, paucity of gestural communication and nonverbal referencing, lack of social engagement, sensory dysregulation, hyperfocus, stimming, etc. These issues drive treatment planning. Guest guest
My son takes Depakote and Lamictal for many years and NEITHER of these AEDs come with a warning not to enjoy grapefruit. He took phenobarb and dilantin for 25 years and neither of these had a no grapefruit cautionary statement either. I don't remember about the Felbatol or Neurontin which he also took for a couple of years. Mark's assertion was that grapefruit is contraindicated with ALL AEDs, maybe Tegretol is the exception. mjh In a message dated 12/28/03 9:37:57 AM Eastern Standard Time, writes: > From: jbs8198@... > Subject: Re: Digest Number 1341 > > I take Tegretol on a daily basis. Guest guest
I think this actually started on a Zonegran or Zonegram comment page and I specifically asked about the side effects of Tegretol. I think this is where the grapefruit information came in. I did not take it to be that all AED takers should avoid grapefruit/grapefruit juice. On my first round of taking Tegretol in the late 80's - early 90's the warning of no grapefruit was not on the prescription. I started taking Tegretol again in 2002 and the warning has been on the bottle ever since. I would bet that it's on the information provided by the pharmaceutical company that produ ces Tegretol, also. I, being a Tegretol taker, MISS ruby red grapefruit and juice in my diet! Guest guest
I know nothing about Sunrider. I don't want a CD. Actually, I'm a little tired of seeing Sunrider promoted in this group. We ALL know that some things work for some and some things do not work for others. The BEST information I've found has been from the Balch and Balch book on Nutritional healing. Guest guest
I take Tegretol XR. My DOCTOR - who is an epilepsy specialist - advised me to avoid grapefruit/grapefruit juice and any products containing grapefruit. The grapefruit warning is on all bottles of the medication that I receive. That's enough for me to avoid it - but I still miss it! I would suggest doing an internet search on " grapefruit and tegretol " or " grapefruit and medications " . Real eye openers...... Guest guest
I was on Arava for about a year. I had no side effects, it just did not work well after awhile. It can be VERY hard on the liver so it requires very close monitoring. It is also not recommended to be taken by those planning to have children cause its fetal toxic and it stays in your system a VERY long time. There is a protocal to flush it from your system should you desire to have children. Some people in another group I am a member of have had problems with diarrhea, hairloss and weight loss. Which weight loss or appetite suppression is a side effect. I also could not tolerate MTX. I am on plaquinil now. Toni In a message dated 12/13/2005 4:51:48 P.M. Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life. P. S. Five is good, but more is better.

Slow down for three minutes to read this. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, " What does love mean? " The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think: " When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love. " - age 8 " When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth. " - age 4 " Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other. " Karl - age 5 " Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs. " Chrissy - age 6 " Love is what makes you smile when you're tired. " Terri - age 4 " Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK. " Danny - age 7 " Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss " - age 8 " Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen. " Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) " If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate, " Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) " Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday. " Noelle - age 7 " Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well. " Tommy - age 6 " During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore. " - age 8 " My mommy loves me more than anybody . You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night. " Clare - age 6 " Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken. " Elaine-age 5 " Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt. " - age 7 " Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day. " Ann - age 4 " I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones. " - age 4 " When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you. " (what an image) - age 7 " You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget. " - age 8 And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, " Nothing, I just helped him cry " When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need. Take 60 seconds and give this a shot! All you do is simply say the following small prayer for the person who sent you this. Father, God bless all my friends in whatever it is that You know they may be needing this day! And may their life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a closer relationship with you. Amen. Then send it on to five other people, including the one who sent it to you. Within hours you caused a multitude of people to pray for other people. Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life. P. S. Five is good, but more is better.
