Guest guest
Welcome Susie! I know insurance companies will pay for basic heavy metal testing, but I think Great Plains Lab does a different (more reliable) test. You mentioned you have a home teacher...is that from the public school system? And how does that work? (I am fighting, two years and about to head to federal court, for homebound services for my son, who has an IEP but the school won;t implement it. > > Hi my name is susie and I have a 2 yr old daughter diagnosed with ASD..I have done my home work on boimedical and GFCF diets and we have OT and home teacher that comes to the house as well as G.I specialist and nerologist and neropathy ANNNDDD child dev annnndd child phyc. I am seeing my daughter regress more and more her vocab is getting better but she is hitting her self ALOT and continues to get frustrated and sometimes out of control stimming. My question is how do I go about testing for mercury? her PD is kinda like " if it cost alot of $$ its prob a hoax " which I do not believe because My daughter used to be WORSE! and I know Chelation (?) is a cleansing of heavy metals from the body but I would like to know more about it and what kind of results ppl have seen?? > THANK YOU > SUSIE >
Guest guest
You can order a hair elements test from Direct Labs for around $90 and that will tell you if heavy metals are a problem as well as other useful information. Great Plains Labs also has a similar test, but its a bit more expensive at around $135. We have BCBS and they covered the test for my son. Guest guest
Welcome Susie, You can order a DDI (Doctor's Data, Inc) hair elements test through DLS (Direct Lab Services) without a doc. If you mention this list they'll give you a discount. Apply the counting rules to the results or post here for help. S S hello IM NEW! Guest guest
OK THANK YOU thats very helpfull info I will look into ordering the test..maybe that has been the issue all along..(heavy metals) so what kind of results have any of you seen by eleminating them ? my daughter has a teacher that comes from a program called " EARLY STEPS " and comp. called kids connect. It's a little early to tell how it will work to be honest she has been here about 7 times and I think My daughter benefits more from OT..the woman who comes to the house is a very nice woman and means well but she goes by the book and some children just dont learn by the " book " ..we'll see. thanks again for your replies it is greatly appreciated!! Guest guest
We're still in the early rounds, but its been amazing so far. Big improvements in social skills, conversational skills, and imaginary play. They why questions went from 1 or 2 every few months to 20 or 30 a day, coginitive skills improving (not quite to grade level, but not far behind), reduction in scripting and now a very vivid imagination. Last night we had to look for monsters under the bed and in the closet! A year ago that wouldnt have happened. We still have sensory issues to address like visual and auditory processing, and he still trying to figure out how to play well with others, but he's getting there and hopefully some sensory therapy and more chelating will help.
