I see no one has answered. Here is " any input " , so please don't get all upset:

At one point, I bought a couple of cheap air mattresses for my sons -- the kind

you normally use for guests. They had to be replaced fairly frequently, but it

still didn't cost as much as a regular mattress.

I and my sons currently sleep on the floor without a mattress of any kind. We

started out with sheets and blankets but these days we use no bedding. As we

got healthier, we had less trouble staying warm. I do use a space heater to

keep me warm in winter. Sleeping next to space heater might be dangerous for a

child, so I am not recommending that.

Good luck coming with an answer that works for you family and your

circumstances.

After a long time of saving we just ordered a Naturopedic set for my son. In the

meantime, you can order food grade plastic and wrap your mattress to help

decrease off gassing.

I couldn't afford an organic mattress either, so I purchased a twin size natural

latex topper that is 4 inches thick. It cost me just under $300 and it's on a

basic platform style frame. You could actually make the frame if you are a

little handy. I found organic linens at target for a decent price and I did

splurge on an organic wool toddler size comforter. You could also do a natural

color cotton blanket and wash it several times before use, if organic is too

costly.

Just as a note, food grade plastic wrap is made of PVC, which is very toxic.

Most mattress wraps are made of a vinyl substance as well, so it's swapping one

toxin for another unfortunately.
