Oh no! I'm sorry, I confused the comment made about ALT level with the Vit E

level as I noted in my earlier post. Both were high, but it was the ALT level

that our DAN made the alcoholic comment about.

Here are the results the DAN had, and some of the comments she made.

What would make the ALT level high? I've started to give Milk Thistle extract

for liver support.

===================

Tues 1/25 = We visited our DAN to go over our son's bloodwork results for

vitamin, mineral and amino acids levels. She helped with interpretation, but not

enough time for the appointment to give me all of the recommendations I need --

I also hadn't realized I would need them until the next day.

Could you please way in on the results, or recommend books, links, pros for me

to reference?

Note: His blood was taken during sedation on 12/23/10. Son weighs 41 lbs @ 5 yrs

old.

From the AMA COMP METAB, Magnesium, Amylase, C React Protein:

Our son seemed to be within the acceptable ranges, primarily in the middle of

the Reference points, EXCEPT for SGPT (ALT).

ALT = 30 (flagged " H " ; high) Reference = 10-25 U/L

The DAN said this liver enzyme could be high due to the supplements I'm giving

our son, possibly his multi-vit -- which is foodbased. She said that at '30' is

what you'd find in an alcoholic.

IRON Total:

IRON = 80, Reference 30-120 ug/dL

FERRITIN = 26, Reference = 6-60 mg/mL

DAN noted that his Iron level was " good " , and that his Ferritin was " too low " .

The Ferritin wasn't flagged as " L " by the lab. It didn't make sense to me that

the DAN would recommend supplementing more iron if his iron was " good " according

to her. What am I not understanding, and is his Ferritin actually too low, not

binding to the iron as it should be for a 'normal'/healthy test result?

From CBC w/DIFF:

DAN said that his immunce system looks " good " . DAN noted the RBC being on the

low side of the Reference, possibly due to low iron.

RBC = 4.17, Reference 4.00-5.30 MIL/uL

From VIT A, VIT E TOCOPHERO:

VIT E (Alpha) = 12.3 (flagged " H " ), Reference = 5.5-11.8 mg/L,

VIT E (B-G) = 0.2 (flagged " L " ; low), Reference = 0.5-3.8 mg/L

What could I have given our son that would up his levels so much? Cod liver oil

maybe? The certified herbalist at our health food store told me that it is

unlikely that the build up came from the foodbased multi-vit I've been giving

since foodbased is easier to flush out of the body. So I'm at a loss as to why

his Vit E alpha is high and the B-G is low.

We're going to AC chelate soon, but not until I'm satisfied that our son's

health is as optimum as possible.

TIA,

Sheila

> Shelia, what were your son's Vitmain E levels? I have not heard the

connection between high levels of Vitamin E and an alcoholic's liver, as many

alcoholics are actually deficient in Vitamin E. How much Vitamin E were you

giving? If you have to, you may be able to increase other antioxidants instead

of using the Vitamin E. Also, did they suggest anything else about his liver?

You may just need to support the liver.
