Guest guest
I've posted a question a couple of places tonight and so far gotten zero response. My genetic disorder involves a malfunctioning channel in the cell membrane and I have added habanero peppers to my diet this past week. The active ingredient in such peppers (capsaicin) artificially forces open some other channel. This has had a big impact and I have done some googling (and wrote a blog post about it: http://www.healthgazelle.com/blog/?p=87 ) and I am trying to better understand how these two channels impact each other (the channel activated by hot peppers and the defective channel involved in my genetic disorder). I have no idea where I could ask a question like that and get meaningful feedback. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the off topic post. Guest guest
You might have the luck to get some answers if you gave very specific information rather than generalities. E. g. which channels, what disorder, what ions do they let in. Guest guest
I did give specifics when I asked elsewhere. I was not expecting to get answers to this here, so was just hoping for a recommendation for where to ask. But since you asked, I am looking for info on the following channels and how they interrelate: TRPV1 -- The transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TrpV1), also known as the capsaicin receptor and the vanilloid receptor 1. (Capsaicin is the active ingredient in this family of peppers.) It is involved in the sensation of burning pain in the nerves. Calcium has some relationship to this, I'm not clear what, and it can be activated by high acidity (something my condition promotes). CFTR -- Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator -- the channel that is the root cause of the symptoms for my condition. It processes chloride. CaCC -- Calcium Activated Chloride Channels. From what I gather so far, these are apparently alternate routes of chloride processing in the cell (assuming I am understanding what I have read so far). So I am basically wondering if capsaicim, in the process of impacting the TRPV1 and apparently also impacting calcium use in the body may be able to force the body to use this other chloride pathway more. I am wondering if it is like a hack to get around the deficient channel. My chronically bloated belly shrank dramatically in just a few days. I wrote about my experiences with consuming habanero peppers and my thought process on this in a bit more detail in the blog post mentioned: http://www.healthgazelle.com/blog/?p=87 Thanks. Guest guest
Prob a geneticist--there's a lady at yale who specializes in the genetic issue you're talking about. I hear she's pretty open-minded and progressive. The cayenne is a big increaser of metabolism, blood flow, oxygenation of the cells. It's in almost every one of Dr Schulze's botanical formulas as a way of driving the herb action deep into the tissue. It will make almost any herb/supplement more effective in the body. You can increase its action by doing alternating hot and cold showers after taking the cayenne and herbs together. You can also ask ingrid naiman--she's a pretty advanced herbalist/naturopath with a newsletter/website. I like her stuff, and I think she'd possibly know somebody if she doesn't know herself. best wishes, Fiona > > > I've posted a question a couple of places tonight and so far gotten zero response.
