I did not use a doctor. I did relatively low doses, altho for #2 it was obvious

it resolved, or it caused headaches and behavior issues.

You can order Iodoral and an Iodine loading test kit from

http://vvv9.com/iodoral/

I have been taking it for years fro my thyroid and breast health (which

iodine turned around completely). The doc who put me on it retired, so I

have been doing it on my own ever since. I worked up to four tabs

originally and then after a couple of years ordered the test myself and now

take two tablets a day (25 mg).

I don't know about iodine loading test for children, though.

Thank you both for the responses. I think I will try 1/2 tablet daily for a few

days and see what happens, if anything. I know to watch out for palpitations,

increased heart rate, sweating, and I have read that acne can be a side effect.

I honestly hate to shell out more money for another test if it's not truly

necessary. I will consider it though.

Hi . I too have always had " normal " thyroid labs, including FT3- but have

hypo symptoms. I have found Nutrimeds porcine thyroid glandular and iodine drops

to be helpful. I have used both on my own and feel much better since doing so.

There's a link to the company in the message from Haven re: testing. I believe

you could buy it directly there. I bought it from vrp.com.

Thanks Irene! This does make make me feel better about trying it without someone

following levels. I've seen the thyroid glandular product, but did not respond

well to the adrenal whole glandular product, so I thought starting with iodine

would be best.

We'll see how things go. I'll let you know if I have ?s

Do you do the load testing before starting iodoral or can you do it after? I'm

presuming it affects the results if you've started taking it. I see Direct Labs

has a thyroid test--what's best way to get a baseline? (to show baseline without

iodoral--can you take a certain amount of time off, then test?)

I've been on iodoral for several months. Definitely notice I'm perkier in

general and the skin on my face feels very soft. Anyone notice bad smelling gas

with the iodoral!? That's my one side effect. Could be iodoral or the houston's

magnesium, which I started both at same time. Sometimes there are ingredients

(usu corn or soy hidden somewhere) that cause reactions in me. The book I

read--on breast health and iodine--said the best way to measure correct dosage

(for an adult woman, at least) is by how well you feel and how your skin/hair

are doing. But that was prob before a lot of these tests were developed. I upped

my dosage to 4 a day over a month or so and felt even better. Nice to feel back

to my old self.

How do you tell if a kid needs it? thyroid testing with Direct Labs? Iodoral

load test? My DS doesn't have a growth problem, but I notice his teeth and nails

used to be brittle. Not so much any more (I think that changed after introducing

the fish oil/butter oil combo for his teeth. I give him a green superfood type

powder that has natural iodine (seaweed), but if he'd benefit from a supplement,

I'd definitely add it.

Also, we live near a nuclear power station--I'm guessing people round here need

it more than elsewhere. Any research on this anyone's heard of.

Lastly, iodine for men? What are the symptoms/benefits? Do men have similar

thyroid issues to women?

Thanks for opening this discussion. Very helpful.

best wishes,

Fiona

Hi ,

I just ordered the Detoxadine to give to my son who is 2.5 years old and weighs

30lbs. Dr. Group who is the manufacturer of the product suggested that i give

him 1 drop a day for 2 weeks and then take 2 weeks off and then repeat.

I would like to know how much you are giving to your son?

Thanks

Where can you buy Porcine Thyroid from? I think the other name of this is called

Armor Thyroid. Does one need a prescription for this?

Must be something in the porcine formulation you are intolerant to. There are

several good bovine thyroid glandulars out there. In fact I used one with great

success. I am debating whether to go back to it. It was cheaper and may have

even worked a little better than the porcine- although the porcine is supposed

to work better.

The thing with the whole adrenal glandular is it has some small amount of

cortisol and most cannot take it and need the adrenal cortex extract instead. I

am one of the few who can. The thyroid glandulars are different. There are

several brands and formulations - both porcine and bovine. It might be worth a

try. I know sometimes on round when I get hypo symptoms if I take a glandular

and some iodine they stop right away.

Hi,

You may want to visit the for thyroid and adrenal health for more

answers and more info.

Armour Thyroid (bovine) is not hightly recommended by some on those 'boards

although highly used. There is also Natureroid you may want to look into. I'm

doing research now for my adrenal/thyroid health. You may want to check for

adrenal health too, because you'll want to treat that first if there is a

problem with your adrenal glands.

If you'd like the links, I can post them.

Bovine isn't an option....allergic to beef and all relatives of beef.

We can not eat beef or lamb. Or their products. Makes life interesting

sometimes...but I tell ya..those migraines were terrible!!!
