Guest guest
Unfortunately I am not breast feeding anymore. I had huge latching problems (worked with three lactation consultants)so I pumped what I could for 7 months. After that, I seemed to almost dry up. However, I am still able to express a very small amount of milk (is that normal?). I did take to the doctor this morning and he said that it is pink eye. He gave me drops and " just to make sure " an oral anti- biotic. I asked him to make sure of what? He said he is giving the oral antibiotics in case it has gotten to the eye lids. He gave me some samples, I did not use any of them yet, as I think antibiotic use at this point is a bit extreme, he is not that bad. He is eating and in good spirits, just eyes are red and a small amount of discharge (mostly noticed after he sleeps). > >I think by 13 months old son has pink eye. Guest guest
Thank you. I will try. Had I known before that breastmilk has been a successful treatment for various infections (such as eyes and ear), I would have frozen some as well. Before delivering I was really hoping to build a large reserve. We even bought a second freezer for our garage that has a deep freeze section. But never got an over-abundant supply. Hopefully next time. Thanks, Dasa > > I can still express a bit - and it's been 14 months since I've nursed - I'd try to express a little bit and just rub it on his eye. > > (I still have one bottle frozen in the freezer - for emergency purposes ) > Cheryl > > > > From: dpavlata > Vaccinations > Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 1:06 PM > Subject: Re: Pink Eye > However, I am still able to express a very small amount of milk (is > that normal?). > > >

Doctors will only give drugs Sheri Here's some homeopathy info http://www.drfeder.com/children/newborn-eyes.htm Pink Eye in Babies and Beyond by Feder, M.D. My daughter was given eye drops after birth which caused an infection and goopy eyes. Is there homeopathic medicine that can be used to treat eye infections in babies? This is one of the frequent inquiries I receive from concerned parents in my office and on my website. Fortunately, most mild cases of conjunctivitis in babies can be treated with homeopathy and a few simple home remedies. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is a common complaint in babies and children and can be caused by bacteria, virus, allergy, foreign body, blocked tear duct, or trauma. The term implies an inflammation of the conjunctiva (the mucous membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelids and eyeball), when inflamed it appears 'pink.' The bacterial and viral infections are highly contagious. Signs and symptoms include red bloodshot eyes, tearing, swelling and inflammation of the eyelids, yellow-green discharge and sensitivity to light. Blocked Tear Ducts Plugged tear ducts occur in 6 percent of all babies and can be a problem up to one year of age. It can affect one or both eyes. By three to four weeks of age a newborns' eyes begin to tear. Normally, tears drain from the tiny tear ducts located at the inside corners of the eyes into the nose. A thin membrane covers the duct, and usually opens after birth. The blockage occurs when the membrane fails to fully open, and tears become backed up. The condition can recur, though usually by six month of age the duct stays open. In standard medical practice, persistent conditions are treated with a minor office procedure using a wire probe, however, some may require surgery. Common symptoms of blocked tear ducts range from persistent tearing and can lead to infection with redness and discharge. Infections in Newborns Ophthalmia neonatorum is an infection of the eye in newborns which is contracted from an infected mother's birth canal. The sexually transmitted diseases (STD), gonorrhea and chlamydia, are usually the cause. In most cases, there is an inflammation of the eyelid and cornea which appear within two or three days after birth. Gonorrhea has been known to cause blindness, conjunctivitis and other infections. In most medical facilities, preventive eye treatment for newborns is placed in baby's eyes after birth. Erythromycin ointment is the current medicine of choice. In the past, silver nitrate was used. In most states, routine eye prophylaxis whether delivery is vaginal or caesarian is required by law. The antibiotic ointment is considered harmless by the medical profession. However, many parents in my office practice refuse eye treatment. Some of the more common reasons include no known history of gonorrhea and other STD's, the adverse effects from antibiotics, and blurring of baby's vision. Current research suggests that routine use of antibiotics to prevent eye infections in newborns may not be necessary. A clinical trial sponsored by the National Eye Institute was done to compare the effectiveness of silver nitrate drops, erythromycin ointment, or no medication in preventing eye infections. In the trial, the rate of eye infections in newborns was similar in both groups. It was concluded that no eye treatment was reasonable for women who tested negative for sexually transmitted diseases while pregnant. The ointment can cause baby's eyes to be red or swollen. Silver-nitrate drops were discontinued because it irritated babys' eyes. The antibiotic ointment occasionally causes infection with the characteristic 'goopy eyes'. In addition, the ointment can blur baby's vision, which can impede the bonding between parents and baby. For parents who have chosen to have the eye drops, administration of the ointment can be delayed an hour or more in most medical settings. Homeopathic Remedies Two-month old Alec was brought into the office by his mother who was worried about his constant leaking of his right eye. She had tried eye massage, and breast milk 'eyedrops' to no avail. His eye was beginning to become inflamed and he woke up for several mornings with crusty eyes. During the consultation, mom reported that he was constipated for days at a time, and sweat while nursing and during sleep. was gaining weight remarkably and life in the family was going smoothly. Compared to her older son, mom boasted that Alec was able to occupy himself with excellent focus. was prescribed Calcarea carbonicum once a day for 3 days, and within a week his eye infection, and the constipation had cleared There are many choices of remedies that can be used for stricture of the lachrymal duct. Calcarea carbonicum matched the totality of Alec's symptoms. Calcarea carbonicum babies are large, sweat easily and prone to constipation. They are independent, stubborn and can play on their own with deep concentration. , 3 months old, woke up suddenly in the middle of the night screaming with a high fever. His face was beet red and his right eye was bloodshot. His parents noted that he was unusually sensitive to light, noise and being touched. On examination, his right eardrum and eye were inflamed. In addition, the eyelids were swollen and the pupils were dilated. was given Belladonna. Belladonna is associated with acute sudden onset of intense symptoms. Homeopathic Treatment for Conjunctivitis: * Calcarea carbonicum Calcarea carbonicum babies are large, sweat easily and prone to constipation. They are independent, stubborn and can play on their own with deep concentration. * Belladonna Belladonna is associated with acute sudden onset of intense symptoms. Extreme heat, dilated pupils and hypersensitivity are characteristic of Belladonna. It is also considered a strong remedy for right sided conditions. * Pulsatilla Pulsatilla is useful for pink eye with lots of yellow-green discharge. It is thick and bland. The characteristic Pulsatilla mood is weepy, whiney, clingy. There is a desire for open air and rich food (which can also make them worse). * Apis mellifica Apis mellifica is known for conjunctivitis with great puffiness and redness of the eyelids. The eyes sting and burn. The condition feels better with cold compress. * Silica Silica is known to be helpful for infection of tear duct or blocked tear duct of newborns. There can be a history of frequent colds and flus with swollen glands. The inflammation is often accompanied with sensitivity to light. This remedy is also useful for styes. Home Treatment o Wash eye with cool water using washcloth three times a day. o Warm teabag compresses on each eye (chamomile is a favorite) o Euphrasia (Eyebright) eye drops several times a day o Eye Massage for blocked tear ducts can open the membrane. Locate the tear duct in the inner corner of each eye. Gently massage in an upward direction toward the nose for one minute. Do this several times per day. o Breast milk. For generations, mothers have been known to squirt breast milk in baby's eyes, as well as nose. It works! Many patients come to my office looking for a homeopathic remedy that is natural and safe without any side effects. Mild pink eye symptoms respond well to homeopathic treatment. In the DrFeder.com Natural Pharmacy we are pleased to feature a wide selection of homeopathic remedies. Most of them are in a 30C strength which is suitable for both children and adults. To order a remedy in a different strength or inquire about a remedy that isn't listed, please contact us. We'll find it for you! For chronic conditions, I recommend constitutional homeopathic treatment, in which a homeopathic remedy is chosen by a trained homeopath after a lengthy interview. This method can be very effective for the long-term resolution of chronic conditions. > ************* For an infant, just dissolve and then put a little of the solution in their mouth Administering Remedies Generally I suggest you use 30C, unless treating a family member very elderly and in a very weakened state (then use lower potencies) or if treating a family member with a lot of pathology (ie cancer - then use lower potencies). Otherwise 30C should be fine for minor acutes and first aid, but may have to repeat more frequently. Do not treat for chronic or recurring things on your own or with 30C. Don't always have to treat. Sometimes just allow body to deal with it if possible. Find a remedy if symptoms: 1. severe, violent 2. likely to cause worse problems 3. stuck 4. very painful 5. to help move things along if going too slowly DO NOT go by what is on the bottle (heaven only knows why fda or whatever makes them say that stuff) A. You can give just a dry pillule, but it appears to work better to give in water (aqueous solution) and be able to succuss it between doses - but in a pinch, give as dry. (for an infant crush if possible or just put in a little water in a cup and let melt and then give.) B. BEST to give as an aqueous solution - one pillule in water 1. Put one pillule or tablet in 6 oz of water (use purified, filtered water if possible) in a water bottle (or cup if you don't have - use disposable plastic cup) 2. Let dissolve or sit for at least 5 minutes (the remedy coats the pillule which is sucrose or the tablet which is lactose) 3. Shake just a little. (if cup, stir with a plastic spoon) 4. Take one teaspoon out of water bottle and give to the person. Wait. 5. You basically give 1 dose of 1 remedy and wait........ a. If improvement, don't give anymore b. If improvement and then same symptoms come back - give another dose of same 1. to give another dose, take the water bottle you have and succuss it - this is strong downward thrusts from about 2 feet up - like a judge hitting a gavel do this 10 times on a book or something (you are succussing to slight raise the potency of what you have started with - it seems that the VF does better with a little higher potency each time, than the same potency 2. give another teaspoon out of this 3. if using a cup and not a water bottle - better to use water bottle though - stir briskly 10 times and give one teaspon c. If improvement and new symptoms that are really a problem and body can't deal with itself - research and find what the new remedy should be (will sometimes use one remedy and shift things and then need a different to finish up) d. If no improvement on one dose, repeat in 20-30 minutes (if using 30C), can do this 3 or 4 times if no improvement after that probably wrong remedy Improvement you may see first is in mental/emotional symptoms, or sleep, or general well being, or thirst or appetite - then the physical symptoms may improve later If you are using 6X or something, may have to repeat oftener than a 30 C asthe energy 'gets used up' in a way. 6. If you get near the end of the bottle, keep at least one teaspoon in there and add 6 ozs more of water to keep it going, as you have been raising the potency each time and don't want to start over. Mostly you will never get to this point as you will only be repeating 3 or 4 times. don't need to refrigerate unless keeping overnight and usually this will not be the case. 7. Throw all away at the end. -------------------------------------------------------- Sheri Nakken, R.N., MA, Classical Homeopath Vaccination Information & Choice Network, Nevada City CA & Wales UK $$ Donations to help in the work - accepted by Paypal account vaccineinfo@... voicemail US 530-740-0561 (go to http://www.paypal.com) or by mail Vaccines - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm Vaccine Dangers On-Line course - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccineclass.htm Homeopathy On-Line course - http://www.nccn.net/~wwithin/homeo.htm ANY INFO OBTAINED HERE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS MEDICAL OR LEGAL ADVICE. Guest guest
Try collodial silver. Make sure you get a good quality brand and use a couple of drops a few times a day. Gold probably has the same properties and qualities as silver and that's why the ring would work. hth, Ann Marie > > Message: 3 > Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2006 17:06:46 -0000 > From: " lbrooks1110 " <labrooks1110@...> > Subject: Re: natural pink eye remedy > > This may seem weird but my grandmother told me her remedy and it has > worked for me all these years (63) - if you have a gold ring just rub > the band on the pink eye several times a day and it goes away. Guest guest
Steph, You were smart to discontinue the Visine. Last year a friend was using it to treat pink eye and when she went to her eye doctor a few days later he told her that in some cases people have gone permanently blind from using Visine to treat pink eye. If you go to the files section at the group website there is a folder called " Treatments " Within that there is a file on Eye Treatments with lost of ideas for treating pink eye or other irritations. Guest guest
Nell, I just had a really bad eye thing. Not sure if it was pink eye but it felt like it. My girlfriend is an herbalist and she made a tea of chickweed, then wrapped the leaves in cheesecloth. Then she soaked the whole thing for a minute in the tea. I put it on my eye for 10 minutes or so, dipping it back in the tea occasionally. She recommends doing that at least 3 times a day, but preferably several times. My inflammation went away within a couple of days. The chickweed pulls out infection. It's also really soothing and takes some of the pain away for a while. Of course, make sure it's not so hot that it burns. Good luck! > Is there any really good natural remedies I can use instead? > > Nell >
Guest guest
My girlfriend wanted to make sure I posted the fact that it's important to throw the poultice away after each use so you won't re-infect the eye. Also be careful not to put it on the other eye if it's not infected. And, duh... wrap the chickweed in cheesecloth before making the tea. Your son may not have bacterial pink eye; he may have candida in his eyes or his body may be detoxifying through his eyes like mine did. Also the eyes can turn quite red in some people when they eat anything off the diet, particularly sugar. In 1986 there was a guy in my candida support group who cheated eating donuts, which immediately made his eye flaming red. His wife always knew when he cheated. LOL! Yes, you can use good natural remedies instead of antibiotics; they are so much better and more effective too. First please ensure his diet is good, and then use one of the Eye Treatments in his article: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/treat9.php Bee

Those are all detox symptoms since his cheating made the candida grow more. The Best, Bee

Guest guest
I got pink eye MANY times as a kid. I always just rode it out. If I recall correctly, mine would last maybe 2 days, switch to the other eye for maybe 2 days. Then I'd be better. IMO no need to go to the dr. My mom took me the first time or two I had it and I got eye drops. I don't recall those drops shortening the duration. If they did, it couldn't have been by much. > > Hi, I wanted to ask this wonderful group if you all know of any home > remedies for pink eye. Guest guest
If you are lactating, breast milk squirted right in the eye (maybe you will have to put it in a dropper first) should clear pink eye right up! It may take a couple of applications, though. > > Hi, I wanted to ask this wonderful group if you all know of any home > remedies for pink eye.
