Guest guest
JMO, but low neutrophils is a concern. I think you are prudent to post-pone. I would. Did you get a baseline CBC before starting chelation? You need to get the neutrophil count back up. Our son's was low for years before it stabilized. It may just be an infection caught at school. Usually neutropenia is more of a concern when doing IV rather than frequent, low dose chelation. I'd let him get well, recheck neutrophil count, and then prepare to resume when the count stabilizes. Sometimes it can be a deficiency in B12 and folate, but this sounds like something he caught at school. If my son's neutrophil came back low, I would post-pone and recheck it before resuming. Guest guest
The absolute neutrophil number is what counts. Mercury lowers neutrophils. Use Dmps/Ala or ALA alone. Biotics Research makes a product called Neutrophil Plus. > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. He has completed 2 rounds of Dmsa following Andy's protocol. Guest guest
My son had this problem (the low neutrophils) and that's why we take breaks and use DMPS and ALA. Guest guest
Hi , How often is it advisable to check for neuthropil levels while doing AC Chelation? Do we need to check it every few months? Guest guest
No recommendations are given for frequency of testing. For those who have lead and have to use Dmsa, it's okay yo use Dmsa just once a month after the initial month of weekly rounds. And as little as 5 mgs Dmsa are sufficient to remove lead so those who are concerned can adjust their treatment accordingly. > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. Guest guest
Not here. I am pretty sure Andy told me, years back, that after the first 6-8 rounds you can test the blood (CBC/Metabolic panel) for liver values and neutrophils. If you do not see any issues, then you are unlikely to see them in the future if you continue with low dose/high frequency chelation. I have tested my son's blood annually, since his values were always in the normal range. I do not know the answer for someone who is monitoring a problem. I tried to search the message archives for that discussion (almost positive it was on A-M), but it wasn't working. Pam > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. Guest guest
Thanks for this information, Pam. We are going to see one of Dr. 's associates at the end of the month for food allergy testing, but I would like to test this as Ethan had low neutrophils in the past. has anyone here ever seen Dr. Randall? Just wondering where he may stand on the AC Protocol. Haven Ethan, 11 Round 8 ALA, 12.5 mg
Guest guest
Our experience is that we used Dmsa at a low dose of 7 mgs for a little over a year and a half before we had low neutrophils. I have known others whose neutrophils got low after a year or more > > > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. He has completed 2 rounds of Dmsa following Andy's protocol. Guest guest
I am going to have another CBC in 2 weeks. If all is within normal limits I am wanting to start ALA but am concerned of metals redistributing into brain. I am assuming 2 rounds of DMSA is no where near enough to bring total body burden of metals down before doing ALA alone. My son has never been sick until now other than occasional allergies. He hasn't even been on an antibiotic and he has a 5 year old brother in school. I guess my point is I was pretty shocked by CBC results as he is a healthy kid. Am I on the right path starting ALA alone this soon in chelation? > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. He has completed 2 rounds of Dmsa following Andy's protocol. Guest guest
The only reason you have to use Dmsa first is if you have had recent exposure to Mercury through amalgam removal or vaccines, etc. Search onibasu.com where Andy has said this many times. Ala is fine to use alone, many have. And I don't know what would change in 2 weeks to warrant another CBC. It takes awhile to build neutrophils up. It would be miraculous if they were Mercury toxic and healthy. Those two things don't go together. > > > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. Guest guest
Happened here as well after a year and a half of DMSA use per the AC protocol. We went to once monthly DMSA - and my son's neutrophils and WBC still plummeted- necessitating a break from it altogether- even though we were using all manner of neutrophil supporting supplements. Before we return to its use (we have lead) we will have to verify neutrophils status by bloodwork. Irene > > > > > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. Guest guest
Posting this for some info since DMSA pulls arsenic. " Causes of Neutropenia Neutropenia can occur either due to decreased production or increased destruction of neutrophils. Neutrophils are produced in the bone marrow and their production can be adversely affected by conditions like, aplastic anemia, cancer, especially leukemia, arsenic poisoning, vitamin B12 deficiency, folate deficiency and certain medications. Sometimes, neutropenia can be a congenital disorder (congenital neutropenia) as well. Even viral infections can occasionally disturb the functions of the bone marrow. Increased destruction of neutrophils can be caused by cancer treatments such as, chemotherapy and autoimmune conditions like, autoimmune neutropenia. Sometimes, severe infections can too cause a drop in neutrophils, as the body can start using more neutrophils than what is being produced. Apart from these, some other possible causes of neutropenia are, mononucleosis, AIDS, lupus, malaria, premature destruction of blood cells by the spleen, radiation therapy, tuberculosis and Kostmann syndrome. " I think that many of us that have heavy arsenic poisioning are going to have this with DMSA. The arsenic coming through will cause this for some of us. I know I post a lot about Benfothiamine. But thiamine is very affected by arsenic. When it is pulled out, thiamine will drop, this causes the bacterial infections (thiamine increases stomach acid-deficiency will cause chronic bacterial infections in the intestines) and this form of thiamine really helps my son tremendously. We haven't had any symptoms of low neutrophils and we have high arsenic. Not sure how it is related. something to consider. > > > > > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD. Guest guest
Thanks Pam for this great info. My daughter's Nuetrophils levels and everything else in the renal and liver tests were well within range when we started Round 1 of AC chelation few months back. Now we are at Round 20. The thought of having to draw blood from her very tiny and so deeply imbedded veins (this runs in the family and drawing blood is such a major trauma for all of us not just her due to the endless needle insertions and pokings to look for veins). I always have the biggest anxiety if anyone of us has to draw blood esp if it was my autistic child (the whole hospital will be able to hear her scream in agony, breaks my heart!). So I am weighing the need for the blood check at this juncture against the trauma than she has to face undergoing this....perhaps I can wait until we reach Round 40 to do another check?? In the meantime, what are the symptoms of low nuetrophill or rather nuethropill crash in a chelating child, does anyone know and could share? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
At round 20, if you have not checked liver and other blood values, I would do so. Do it once and see what you see. If you see issues, then you know you need to pay attention and perhaps do more follow-up. If everything looks fine, then you can probably avoid repeat bloodwork except on an annual basis (if at that). You probably already know this, but call ahead to the lab to get their best pediatric phlebotomist to meet you at a scheduled time. If they offer traveling services to come in to your home for the bloodwork... do that instead. Pam > > > > > > > > I just got labs back on my 3 y/o son with ASD.
