Guest guest
Does the casein in milk play a part with Kefir--I know nothing about it except I was told it would help the gut?????? From: ronnimike <HISSPECIALTOUCH@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Coconut kefir, candida die-off or strep issues? Date: Thursday, January 27, 2011, 9:54 AM  My son who is so incredibly sensitive to strep strains, does great with kefir....both water grain and milk. The die off can be pretty ugly..I wonder if giving charcoal an hour afterward or cutting back the amount would help. When we first added coconut to our kefirs...we add coconut juice to water and coconut milk to milk types...we did get a lot of viral die off...so you could be seeing either die off...yeast or viral. We went thru a few tough weeks getting them where they could tolerate it...now they have 3 16 oz glasses a day. hth Ronni > > Hi everyone > I have been giving my 4 year old son young coconut kefir (made using BED kefir starter grains) for 10 days now. He has so far had a runny nose, cough, rash on his cheeks and hands, 4 days of constipation followed by 5 days (going on 6 now) of foul-smelling diarrhea. I just read somewhere that some kefirs contain a strep strain. Can anyone confirm that, and can anyone advise whether they think these symptoms are candida die-off or whether he could be having a viral reaction to the strep strain in the kefir? I don't know for sure but I think he might have a strep issue. If it is a reaction to the strep, is that a bad thing or a good thing? > Thank you for any advice or information you can give! >
Guest guest
The good kefir most refer to and give to their children is made from the water of young coconuts, so it would not contain casein. I believe casein (a protein) is found in the milk of mammals. Please be advised soy protein is very similar to casein, so often children who go casein free benefit from also going soy protein free. My son benefited greatly from the removal of soy protein as well as going gf/cf. Haven
