MSG - induced seizure

My son had his first seizures at age 7 last year. We never knew what caused

them, there were only about 4-5 of them and we were able to get him to " come to "

by offering motivating things, putting cold water to his lips.

He hadn't had any since about Nov. last year. We had also stopped eating tacos

from a particular restaurant. We got tacos from that restaurant yesterday and

he turned red in the face. We drove to speech therapy and PE class at his

school and he was having some absence seizures during speech and tried to walk

out of PE twice, which is not normal for him.

When we got home, he got right on the computer and I told him no, his brother

has to look some things up for homework. He got mad and threw my shoes at me

(this aggression/violence had also gone away). I was getting out of the game

and when I walked back into the livingroom, he was lying there face down on the

floor. He had another seizure. I turned him over and quickly grabbed two

capsules of charcoal and some water. I sat him up (while he was still out of

it, eyelids fluttering) and put them in his mouth and fed him the water. He

choked a little on the water and swallowed. Then he was awake.

I kept an eye on him the rest of the day and called the restaurant to find out

what exactly was in the tacos. The corn tortillas contained cellulose gum and

fumaric acid and the chicken was flavored with a boullion called Knorr Suiza.

(which, I am pretty sure contains MSG). I think this is what caused him to have

the seizure. I am going to be much more careful to avoid all excitotoxins.
