Guest guest
That is a lower dosage than usual. It could be that your labs have shown some dip towards hemolytic anemia or something else. Ask the Dr why it's so low. You should be taking either 1,000 or 1200mg daily. If there is no reason for the dosage to be that low, ask the Dr why he isn't giving you the full dosage. There must be a reason for it. LeighAnn
Guest guest
Hi nightblossom. I was on 3 and 3 but the meds started giving me anemia so they had to cut it to 2 and 2. I still cleared the virus. Just make sure he or she keeps on top of the labs and blood work. I would suspect that they probably have enough info to know the cutoff for efficacy of the meds. And if you are in a study there are protocols they have to follow. > Hello All...hope you're all in the best of health. > I have a tiny problem. Guest guest
- I just hope that it's sciatica. I have the same pain. It started in my low back and reached into my left butt into my thigh and mine goes down to my freakin' foot. I thought it was sciatica, too. An MRI showed a herniated disc at L4/L5, so if I were you, I'd get it checked out sooner than later. This is what's driving me nuts right now. Also my herniation is pressing on my S1, which is why it goes down to my foot when I stand up. Crap. joe > Hey All > Okay im going nuts with this sciatica pain that goes down into my right thigh...hot sharp shooting, aching, agonizing, freakin pains. I take lortabs 7.5 q4hrs and soma's q6hrs. The medication only helps a little over an hour. And then im miserable until i can drug up again. Yes laying down helps, but i am still working. Any suggestions to what might help or other pain med might help(my family doc will give me anything until i have my initial consult with the neuro on June 2) >

Guest guest
Well you two, I hope for both of you that its nothing serious, but I hope more that its Fixable! As of right now mine is not so I deal with that irritating (to be nice) nerve pain 24/7 and its enough to make me want to literally shoot my foot at times so I dont feel that pain, its so bad in my heel! My neurontin can calm it down a bit but knowing that right now there is no reason (disc or sciatica) for it to be bothering me, that's the worst, not having a possible cure for it. Its sad when you hope the nerve severs itself so you dont feel anymore pain, I wish you both luck!! , as I said I take neurontin for my nerve pain, others swear by topamax which I did try but for me I had a very odd side effect so my doctor took me off it immediately, but if it works for a lot of ppl go for it. I dont have any of the side effects that others on here have had with neurontin (weight gain is the big one I guess) so I'm back with that. Good luck in whatever you try and Joe, I hope you arent having a new problem as it seems from what you've said about S1 you may, lets hope its " sympathy " pain... there feels like there's a problem but its just pressure from the actual problem one. Ugh I tell ya if its not one problem its another, why do we get thrown with more than one thing to deal with? I just hope all of you that have neck and now low back problems dont have to go thru anymore pain, I really hope that after your surgeries it's all gone and you're back to normal lives... I'm so glad there is a chance out there for you all, options of surgery, and if I'm lucky (I never thought I'd say lucky and surgery in one sentence LOL) I'll someday soon have the option of surgery, I'd be runnin to the hospital if I had the chance! Guest guest
Hi all. I wrote a few times on here but, I was concentrating on keeping my compensation. Now, i am in the process of appealing their decison to cut me off. I went to the Pian Clinc on Monday and the Director said he no longer wanted to do injections but, wanted to talk. He is sending a letter to my Medical Dr. with suggestions and referring me back to the surgeon. I have not had surgery and I got hurt on May 12th last year. I had the facet joints injected and 2 epidurals. The Dr. at the Pain clinic wants my medical Dr. to put me on neurotin PLUS a slow release pain medication(an opiate). Does anyone know of some of these? I am presently on diaulid ..4 mg..4 times a day but, they don`t last long and I have a horrible quality of life. He said the slow release would help me get some life back and I have been told you usually take the other pain med as prescribed but, the slow release a stops the breakthrough pain ,when the time between meds is not up and you can not take more. I know nothing of the neurontin.what is it like ? He said you start at 300mg a day and can go up as much as 16oo mg a day. I really can not afford to gain weight as someone said that is a side affect ,as a year with little mobility I have put on 35 lbs.I would apprecaite any info . I have pain in my right buttock, groin, leg and foot and now, sometimes I get pain into my left buttock and going into the leg. The only releief I can get is moving from one positon to another and NOT for long. THe best is wrapped around a bdy pillow. I want an operation...because its been a year and I am getting worse. I think an operation holds some hope for us who have tried everyhting else and been unsucessfull. I had PT. for the first 5 months and tehn I went back foir all of April but, came back home more sore. Has anyone tried to do a little biking on a stationary. i want so bad to find a way to lose some of this exces weight. Guest guest
Thank you Joe,Connie, and . I got alot of interesting info from you....so i compiled it all down in front of me before calling my family doctor...only to find out that she is out of town until Friday!!! Grrrr....figures thats my luck. Since I haven't seen the neuro...i can only tell what my problem is from reading the MRI report. Its says....at L3-4 there is borderline stenosis of the canal due to relatively short pedicles. At L4-5 there is grade 1 spondylolthesis associated with degeneration or the facets. In addition there is diffuse bulging of the annulus. This results in stenosis of the spinal canal and narrowing of neural foramina bilaterally. Also pressure is noted on the S1. Okay anyone know what the hell this all means???? The only thing I know is that I am a surgery candidate! Oh this MRI was done just a few weeks ago, when I was having this pain in the leg. And thank god my pain thus far hasn't traveled any further down the leg...stops at the knee.Your right Joe...this is CRAP!

Guest guest
Hi, Sorry to hear about your pain. I have been severe pain for the last five years and bad pain for twenty years prior to that, its a long story! When you go to the neurosurgeon in June you might talk to him about MORPHINE IMPLANT. My life is so different today. Beleive me I had lost all hope. I don't your exact situation, but I am doing my part to try and help my fellow Pain suffers. I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Thank you Have you had surgery? And still in pain? Right now Im trying to keep a positive attitude that I wont have any pain after the surgery(i mean i know i will have some immediatley following),but in the long run praying it will be back to almost like normal. I know i have high hopes....but got to think positive. Oh wow...my family doc didn't really change my drugs, she just doubled my lortabs 7.5(take 2 every 4 hours), so it has helped some. That along with the soma and an ice pack shoved down the back of my pants and one strapped to my leg...i guess im doing a little better, even tho i look funny. Have to go to an outside BBQ in Orlando tomorrow...suppose to be in the 90's....may have to switch to dry ice(LOL). Thanks for keeping me in your prayers...all you guys are so great Re: Need Advice Hi, Sorry to hear about your pain. Guest guest
, Not knowing how much you know. Try http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus. It' s a font of wonderful, easy to understand information & has lots of top-notch links. Here's what I know: -Pedicles are the finger-like projections of bone along your spinal column that create your spinal canal (lamina) & cradle your nervous system (nerves). - " Relatively short " pedicles mean that your spinal canal is not as deep or cavernous as some, exposing you to possible stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal where external pressure may impinge your spinal cord. You are borderline, meaning you don't have to worry about it right now. -Spondylolithesis is where there is L4-5 subluxation (dislocation, movement) in your lumbar region of your vertebrae, & typically occurs in arthritic or other degenerative cases. Your's is nearly a textbook case, as L4-5 are the universal lumbar bones that slip on each other. Painful, yes. -Foramina: back to your nervous system. The spaces between the bones of a spine are called foramina, & the nervous system passes through your spine & into your arms & legs. The space between your L4-5 bones are narrowed, most likely because of the slippage between L4-5. -Annulus: Between each bone of the vertebrae is a gel-like disk (think cartilage) that acts as a cushion between the bones of your spinal column, which allows you to bend, etc. The annulus fibrosus is a cartilage-like ring around the cushion. It's probably bulging from your slipped L4-5, as they're squeezed together. The bulge is impinging on your spinal canal, which is causing the narrowing (stenosis). -Pressure on S1: Right below L4-5 are your sacral verterbrae starting with S1. Perhaps your bulging annulus from L4-5 is pushing up against your first sacral bone. If your neurosurgeon isn't available to answer your questions, try calling your regular physician. Mine has helped me so much. You may want to be cautious in bending. You may want to avoid jumping. sonia

Guest guest
, My 1 level fusion was 4 hours. That was with bone graft. Some hospitals usally have the bigger surgerys in the morning. My laminctomy which was only 2 hrs was scheduled for 10. I still dont get this brace wearing thing...Does one wear it for more than 1 level fusion? I was sitting in a chair on the 3rd day. No brace. Maybe its easier or something. My doc told me before surgery that he doesnt use them so Inever questioned it..

Guest guest
, Hope it helped. Yes, it's no touch-your-toes time for all of us. Sigh. BTW, have you considered asking for an early morning surgery? Later in the day, the more procedures your surgeon has already performed & is getting progressively tired & more apt to make mistakes. Guest guest
I know nothing about the back braces (yet). I have that on my list to ask the doctor when i have my consultation for surgery. Im hoping i don't have to wear one....especially during the summer in Florida. It was 93 here today and humid...miserable! ps..thanx for info on surgery times. 2hrs wouldn't be bad. Guest guest
Well i really don't know what they are going to do surgery wise. The Ortho doc said fusion, but have yet to hear what the neuro says. Ah yes then you know Florida weather. I was in Orlando Saturday for a BBQ. Who the hell has a BBQ in Florida in this heat! It was miserable. All I wanted to do was jump in the pool and go swimming, but the Ortho said NO SWIMMING! So for right now I just settle for the girls little plastic swimming pool...what a sight! Guest guest
Why say anything? He has made his peace with something he can't change about his own past. He isn't asking for advice or information, just telling you what he thinks. Need advice | Below is part of an email I received from a childhood friend who just got back in touch with me. I asked him about polio that he contracted when he was a child. I wondered if he had gotten a vaccine at all, and if so if it was before the polio. See below. I need advice on how to answer this situation. | | >As for causes, its good to believe in something. As for my polio, I took the oral vaccine for polio just like everybody did back then. My mother and I both so got a Smallpox vaccination in late August but mine didn't take (no scab), my mother's did. Within a few days I had a high fever (104)followed by recovery and then the polio started August 31, first at the ankle and by Sept 2 my left leg was paralyzed. All this just before my 8th grade year (1964). Sept 2 I was in hospital with partial paralysis and a lot of pain from the contractions. I spent 6 weeks in the _____ hospital and in Nov I went to _______ and spent another 6 weeks. Because of the lack of knowledge about polio by the doctors in _____ they did everything wrong and cost me the normal use of the leg. ______ totally understood what to do and save what little was left. I only wear a short knee brace but any thoughts of entering the Olympics in the 100 yard dash are pretty slim. Did I get polio from the vaccine, I don't know. Would I do it all over again even knowing that there is always a chance of getting or having a reaction to the vaccine? Yes. The number of people who benefit from vaccines far outweighs the number of people who will be negatively affected. It's the cost of protecting the masses. Polio didn't have a devastating effect on my life, it just made me redirect my energies. Just as you grandson was stricken and you feel victimized because you weren't told of all the risks, how would you feel if you had been told, chosen not to vaccinate your grandson and he then got the disease the vaccines were meant to protect you from? It's a Catch-22. Your right, they never spend time telling us that there is a know percentage of the population that will get the disease or have a bad negative reaction, probably because of the fear factor that would cause, but at this time, what alternative would you suggest to prevent these devastating diseases?> | | Any suggestions on what to say? | | | | | | | |
