Guest guest
Have you looked into a visual processing problem? Often kids will hold things peripherally, or look out the sides of the eyes, because of visual processing issues. In a message dated 2/28/2011 7:45:14 A.M. He takes his left hand, holds it just to the side of his left eye and does a pinching motion with his middle finger moving down to touch his thumb, holding his other fingers up and out. He will do it for about 10 seconds, many, many times within a day. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this or how to eliminate this? Guest guest
It reminds me of a pattern of doing something over and over again just as a soothing process. I think we do it because of a need to affirm our reality.. It can be emotionally based but of course when suffering from physical problems which affect our mood/brain these emotional triggers become alot more predominant.. Maybe he has something in his mind about his hand/ his finger.. Maybe if you talked to him about his hand and see if he has any fears of it being hurt or being in pain. I know for myself I became overly focused on my right arm and leg because of a past trauma..a broken arm and a muscle problem in my leg. This was definitely more on my mind because of my state with my terrible brain etc health . When fatigued we feel the need for more safety and are much more concerned about our physical safety and so we can become overly focused on our past traumas. nanci > > In a message dated 2/28/2011 7:45:14 A.M. Guest guest
We weren't sure if this was a visual stim and/or depth-perception or peripheral eye problem. It went away after we started low strength, dose beta-carotene/mixed carotenoids. It took a few weeks but our son stopped doing the eye thing until recently when we took a break from carotenes. I wasn't sure if he was absorbing it well. Not all children absorb carotenes well, but apparently our son did since it helped then and now. We are on the carotene again, and fish oil (not CLO). I'm re-vamping his supps list this month, and we're going to keep the carotenes. He was putting things close to his eyes, at the corners, cross eyed, you name it, he's done it with his eyes multiple times a day. lol He particularly loved a crystal prism I have. He still loves looking through it, but doesn't put it up to his eye like he used to. Sheila > > My son has developed a behavior over the last few months and I have been unable to fix it. Guest guest
I have heard people talk about certain things happening as childrens' bodies start to heal. Maybe instead of a problem, this is a way he is exercising a new found ability to see better in his peripheral vision. > > My son has developed a behavior over the last few months and I have been unable to fix it. Guest guest
Thank you. I did consider that initially as he has always been a major hyperlexic/tunnel vision kid -- peripheral vision would be an improvement. However, it has been 4-5 months and is increasing and looking very much stimmy. > > > > My son has developed a behavior over the last few months and I have been unable to fix it.
