moving his fingers on the side of his left eye

My son has developed a behavior over the last few months and I have been unable

to fix it. He takes his left hand, holds it just to the side of his left eye

and does a pinching motion with his middle finger moving down to touch his

thumb, holding his other fingers up and out. He will do it for about 10

seconds, many, many times within a day.

Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this or how to eliminate this?
