Do swimming pool chemicals affect the hair test?

Dear all:

As chance would have it, we took our little one to the pool yesterday and then I

took hair samples this morning. We don't usually go to the pool, but DS is

officially mad about going swimming after we went a coupla weeks ago. It didn't

cross my mind till after I took the samples. It's a tough trade-off--he gets

extra mobility and neural patterning (we've been teaching him to swim in the tub

since 3 mos old), but I know there are pool treatments. Till now I've avoided

pools.

My questions:

Will the chlorine affect the hair tests?

Should I wait and do it over again after the hair's been washed several times?

I called Direct Labs and they said just to let my doctor know, so that didn't

help me know whether or not to proceed.

many thanks,

Fiona

Hi Fiona,

Some pool chemicals contain copper, so that may show up as high.
