Guest guest
Hi , I did the training and here's what I can tell you about it. Some of the techniques I learned there have been very useful in helping my son learn to communicate. I also learned a lot about accepting my child and how my attitudes can affect his development. I made a lot of nice friends too!  The main issue I had, was that it is a big investment past the initial training, because if you can put together a whole full-time program complete with volunteers, you are still going to need some guidance along the way in your program....which will cost more money. If you have the money to invest in ongoing consulting, training programs, and guidance, then I say by all means it's worth it. I know a lot of the friends I made there have had a lot of success with thier programs. I decided to try Floortime because it just seemed more methodical and applicable to me, and there are a lot of local professionals familiar with the floortime approach in my area...so just more accessible for me, personally and financially. Hope that didn't just confuse you...but I can say that I do not regret at all going to the training. ________________________________ From: <cano_iu@...> Sent: Wed, January 26, 2011 9:48:59 AM Subject: [ ] Feedback on Son Rise Program???  Hi everyone! Guest guest
thank you for taking the time to answer me back!!!!! I really appreciate your honest realistic response:) It looks like regardless you did gain many good things for yourself and you child! Skills, support and more! My concern is that if I go foward and do the training will i be able to implement it at home even part time because I do have a 1 and 1/2 yr old as well?? If you don't mind i was wondering the following: Is it tough to do the strategies at home???? Do you have to make a lot of materials to use when teaching or are they provided??? What kind of specific communication results did you see in child and how verbal was he/she before?? My son says single words mainly. Also how quickly did you see results??? Do you have them in other therapies as well??? (my son has done ABA in the past[i know its the total opposite of son rise} and now he's back at private montessori style school with a personal aide in the class) I have stopped speech right now because as you already know traditional therapies do very little for our kids) Thank you so much i really appreciate your help:) You know what I was wondering??? Why is Son Rise kind of a secret??? I stumbled upon it by accident, but I was thinking if it helps many kids why isn't everybody doing it???? just a thought lol Thanks > > Hi , > I did the training and here's what I can tell you about it. Some of > the techniques I learned there have been very useful in helping my son learn to > communicate. Guest guest
I went to the Start Up and did a part time program with my son last year. This year I was thrilled with his teacher/program so he is in school full time. I still do use the techniques and you really will get so much out of the Start Up. I have other young kids but they were in preschool while I worked with my son. I honestly saw results just from implementing the ideas in the videos before I even went to Start Up. They have great ideas for working with your child and really help you to see and do what you need for your child. After going to their training I was better prepared to even deal with the school. And the people you will meet there will be another strong support group for you. I am so happy that I went! ~ > > Hi everyone! Has anyone done or had any experience with the Son Rise program???? Guest guest
, if you're planning on going to the Autism One conference this year in May, in Chicago, The Autism Treatment Center of America (Son-Rise) are providing free childcare - it might be an opportunity to talk to someone face to face about the program, maybe even see some principles in action? They're flying out their tutors for the conference to provide the childcare. BTW - Autism One is FREE this year! > > Hi everyone! Has anyone done or had any experience with the Son Rise program????
