Guest guest
Yes, it can be allergies. I had itching until I started my allergy shots. This is a dead give away and my allergist said this is a response. I would start allergy shots again. Your system changes according to my dr and you may be allergic again. sarah Re: [ ] Re: Itching > > I am allergic to many pollens, Rag weed, cat dander (given up on > having animals) and doctor says about every plant here (I rarely go out > for this reason anymore and no longer have indoor plants). Guest guest
Cyntha, Some of your symptoms sound like hypothyroidism: allergies getting worse, being cold all the time, shortness of breath, even the itching can be a symptom of thyroid problems. Has your doctor tested your thyroid? Guest guest
My husband had the worst part of itching so far between the two of us (mine's low grade off/on- more a nuisance than driving me crazy). He tried aloe vera externally (stuff you use for sunburn), coconut oil, anti-fungal ointment, antibacterial ointment, Epsom salt baths followed with coconut oil. All helped a little. He also on his arms ( but nowhere else) used rubbing alcohol-said it burned like you know what, BUT he began to get some relief after this. Now I'm not recommending the alcohol, but this is what he did. I'd called to our LLMD and they called up an Rx for Prednisone, but we never had to use it. I used Benadryl once and it seemed to help some for me. For myself if it gets to really bothering I take a long Epsom salt bath, followed with coconut oil and then each day after my shower apply coconut oil or aloe vera. It seems to keep it at bay- not totally gone, but tolerable. Husband had had rash and itching for 6 months, mine has been for 2 so far. His actual rash is basically gone, itching just a bit. If you're to the point of open sores- I would think you may have bacterial infection in them also. Hope this helps Rose Marie > > Okay I know there has been recent talk on this subject but I haven't been > on line forever and many of my e-mail have gotten erased. Guest guest
Hi Cyntha, Could you give a little more background on the history of itching? When did it start? Can you trace it back to anything? Are you on antibiotics for Lyme and perhaps you are allergic to them? Whenever I take Ketek I go into itching fits so the dr said I can never take it again. Do you take antihistamines? Zyrtec is best I've taken and helps me survive the daily exposures to things I am allergic to like latex. I'm not a doctor and I am going out on a limb here, but is there any chance you could be allergic to latex? The way most people find out is by going to dentist and getting itchy, numbness or tingling around mouth or a redded ring around the mouth. Anything like that ever happened? Do you have a job that exposes you to latex constantly? That's how I ended up with the fullblown allergy. I wouldn't even suggest this to you except the itching you describe is the way I respond if I consume or even come in contact with bananas. Bananas have similar protein to latex and are a cross reactive. I actually react worse to bananas than to latex gloves now. I have gone into such severe itching fits that took 2 zyrtec & 4 doses of benedryl to stop it. Anyone looking on would have thought I was having a convulsion. Try to look at what you are doing and see if something is spawning the itching bouts. Have you changed soaps, shampoos, dish detergents, laundry detergents or lotions? Have you introduced a new pet into home? To calm the itching I would ask your dr about Zyrtec, but I would avoid things like prednisone because if you have Lyme it will make it worse even though it might help the itching. Could be the whole thing is Lyme caused, but I would try to eliminate other possible causes first. Things like Aveeno oatmeal bath powder can calm irritated skin, Gold Bond powder is soothing on some rashes I get. To cleanse sensitive skin Cetaphil is the excellent. My dermatologist told me to always use that on my face and if I am having a bad skin day I use it to bathe all over with. Just another thought if I stop Zyrtec I go into major itching fits. Have you stopped any longer term allergy meds? Hope you are feeling better soon. > > I am literally going insane. I itch all the time and would welcome any > advice on taking care of it. Guest guest
I would try a antihistamine. Have you asked your doctor about the itching? I get really dry skin and itch like that. Sometimes when I'm herxing really bad I get really itchy and feel like I have pins pricking my skin. Good luck!! Guest guest
This very well could be. I have had high liver enzymes for a while..though milk thistle seems to help...I have had to go off of it though because of my allergies to rag weed....so I will mention the liver cleansing. Someone also mentioned Hypothyroidism...well I 've got that too...sounds like it could be a combination of many things. I have been diagnosed also with Graves Disease. lol..I'm a mess. I am still itching like crazy today...it really hasn't gone down but at least my spirits are higher...I did manage to fall asleep for awhile last night...I think I was so exhausted that my body just finally shut down for awhile despite the itching. I am going to ask the doctor about all of your suggestions....I do know it isn't dry skin..I've ruled that one out...been using oils and lotions like crazy. Thanks for all of your advice. Guest guest
Hi ,, Have you been tested for Bartonella? It is a demyelinating co- infection of the lyme disease. It will give you symptoms similar to the ones you are describing, It is neurological in nature. You may also have hyperactive startle reflex, tremors, unusually wrinkled skin, calloused hands, feet and an undermining rash. The rash may or may not be visible at first then it will form a pattern similar to ring worm or stretch marks in places that have no business being wrinkled : o Your face may seem to have roseaca (sp) and you may even feel a " creepy crawly " sensation all over at times. If you have not been tested by a LLMD at a reputable clinic then I will suggest that you get tested right away. I am sending you a prayer for your well being, let me know if I can help in any way, Best Regards, > > > I am allergic to many pollens, Rag weed, cat dander (given up on > having animals) and doctor says about every plant here (I rarely go out > for this reason anymore and no longer have indoor plants). Guest guest
I have actually had an itching problem for quite a while now for years..but never this severe. It has started really bad for the last three weeks. I have had other times where it got pretty bad but have always been able to control it to a certain degree...I have always been prone to itching. It sure was a pain also around when I had my surgery...which is when it got really bad but for the life of me can't figure out why that would cause it...unless it is the stress of the surgery and other conditions worsening because of it (or medications they may have given me. (I had my left ovary removed because of a large cyst just a little bigger than baseball size). Besides the Lyme Disease I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease (tends to be hypo), Insulin Resistance, Sleep Apnea, High Cholesterol, Chronic Sinus Infections, GERDS, the list goes on. I am on Amoxicillan right now but have also been taking Biaxin off and on. I have also been having allergy shots for all my allergies. I do have sensitivity to Latex and certain tapes...not severely but enough to drive my skin nuts...I have tried Zyrtec, doesn't work, benadryl isn't help...anti itch creams are not helping. I have tried hot baths, cold baths..cold icepacks and so forth...but I do have to say I have not tried the oatmeal baths and am intrigued by this, it is definitely worth a try. I like the idea of cleansing the liver too because I have high liver enzymes problems. I will also be testing my thyroid again to see I need to higher my dose of Levothyroxine. I have also tried to think of other new medications I might have changed to recently. I have also tried to watch what I wear since some materials seem to bother me more than others...You guys have been such a great help. Even though I haven't got the itching under control it sure helps to hear of others experiences. Makes you feel not quite so alone. thanks again, Cyntha On Wed, 25 Jan 2006 17:41:02 -0000 " wtptoo " <wtptoo@...> writes: > Hi Cyntha, > > Could you give a little more background on the history of itching? > When > did it start? Guest guest
Are you treating your thyroid condition? I had really bad skin problems too before I got my thyroid problems treated. Really dry itchy skin that no lotion, salve or ointment could clear up. I have hashimoto's and hypothroidism. I am now on synthroid, and after several months on the synthroid most of my skin problems cleared up. Kathy > > > This very well could be. Guest guest
Cyntha, I have hypothyroidism too but can't say that it ever caused itching for me, though it is known to cause dry skin which in turn can cause itching. But when is the last time you have your thyroid evaluated? I believe the Levothyroxine you are on is only T4. A lot of women are not good converters and really do better on T3 & T4. Many patients feel better on natural instead of synthetic hormone replacement so they take Armour thyroid, Westhroid or Naturethroid (all prescription). I was on Armour for a couple years then switched over to Naturethroid which has been around since 1945 though few people have ever heard of it. It was developed for people with corn and dye allergies and is called the hypoallergenic thyroid med. It contains T1, T2, T3 & T4 just like Armour, but I seem to absorb or assimulate it better. I told my friend about it and she is doing better since her dr switched her over to it. I have seen on other lists a number of people on synthetic T4 that still seem to have all the old thyroid symptoms despite treatment. So it seems that may not be the right option for a number of people. Perhaps you should talk to your dr about reevaluating you thyroid condition. I'm thinking you said in another post that you have hypothyroid but then you mentioned Graves Disease. Isn't that hyperthyroidism? If so that sounds more like Hashimotos if you are hypo and hyper at times. That is an autoimmunity problem and is a whole other can of worms. Have you ever been tested for thyroid antibodies or ANA antibodies? I have > tried hot baths, cold baths..cold icepacks and so forth...but I do have > to say I have not tried the oatmeal baths and am intrigued by this, it is > definitely worth a try. Guest guest
Yes Graves is Hyperthyroid per say...but I had my thyroid radiated...killed to a certain degree you could say which has caused my thyroid to go Hypo. They never did tell me if the Graves is gone or not....don't know if that happens...In 1999 I was diagnosed with Hoshimoto's...but I guess sometimes with thyroid problems they can go from one degree to another at least from what I understand. I am sure learning lots though....I didn't know there were other medications...This has been a great help...I will definitely talk to my doctor about that one. I can usually tell when my skin is dry...it does not appear to be..I have had that problem in the past. I think it could be a combination of a whole bunch of things...but my got instinct tells me it could be allergies (despite the shots and benadryl) and I do think that Lyme disease is the biggest culprit. I think that is where my doctor is frustrated. He tells me honestly he doesn't know much about Lyme..I am hoping to train him and he seems to be willing. He just started at the office a couple months ago so I have only seen him once. He said he didn't honestly know what to do for the itching since we have tried many things. I again didn't sleep last night but have decided to keep the spirits high...stayed up and watched Police Academy on TV forgot how funny it was. So that of course really kept the laughter going...been watching lots of comedy lately trying to keep from getting depressed. Seems to be helping...I may have to start seeing my LLMD that I had in PA again....don't really want to travel that far now that I am back in Idaho but it may have to be done...would rather go with someone I trust. Thanks everyone, Lol...I think we have about exhausted this topic....thanks again for all the advice. Guest guest
If your liver enzymes are up, in my very humble opinion- possibly your liver isn't clearing the toxins. I've never done a liver cleanse, but possibly look into this- but read about it alot before you jump in. I've seen Hulda e (google it- think I spelled it right) mentioned in this regard before- but I've never done any of this... just a thought, but wondered about this for you. In regard to the GERD, a lady had written to me that her mother in law is much better after taking digestive enzymes for this condition. I take these (and they do help), but again I've really never had this Gerd at all. Rose Marie > > I have actually had an itching problem for quite a while now for > years..but never this severe. Guest guest
I have to second what has said about natural thyroid. My thyroid symptoms didn't start to subside until I was on Armour Thyroid for over 6 weeks. I switched to a generic version and within a month I was so fatigued I could barely get out of bed. I switched back and within a month I felt much better. Lyme can affect your thyroid, so if you haven't been checked recently, it would be a good idea to check again. And if your doctor relies only on TSH, ask that he/she also check free T4. If your itching is the result of multiple causes, it may take trying lots of things to get it to subside. Guest guest
Hi I hope Bee doesn't mind if I jump in here with a suggestion (Hi Bee!). I have been suffering from itching and painful hives for a few years and can appreciate how debilitating they can be. Two things have helped me immensely - 500 mg of Quercetin taken three times a day (recommended by my naturopath). Available at any health food store. And Pau d'arco tea. Usually, if I break out in a hive, if I drink some pau d'arco tea, relief soon arrives. (Pau d'arco cleanses the blood) Try either - or both. Hope you find some relief soon. [ ] ITCHING I understand about coconut oil and cravings. What I dont understand is what to do about this itching that is keeping me from sleeping. What to do about it,it has been with me for 3 months,I can get it to calm down but then I have to stop eating coconut oil and salt, lemon juice. Skin brushing I am doing. Staying away from fruit. I can eat cooked meat between meals and that is good.Everything is cooked,no raw.Feels like I am goingnuts with this itching. at one minute it is crawling, then thenext it aches, then it is intense itching, Red splotchy skin and their is nothing I can do? How much longer?
Guest guest
, I am using oil of oregano for my itchy legs, and the eczema I get on my arms as well. Also it works in the groin area too, it stings a bit at first but anything that alleviates the itch, I make myself tolerate. Shirley G. >How can I heal when the itching is so intense. Guest guest
, The itching means the coconut oil is doing its job. Itching is one of the many possible die-off symptoms. I know only too well how uncomfortable it is because I itched for about two hours the other night. As soon as my friends who were visiting left I dry brushed, took a shower, scrubbed with the sea salt, rinsed with cool water, then moisturized with, of all things, coconut oil. You'd be amazed at how well that works! I live in an ADA apt. and don't have a tub but if you do you could take an Epsom salt bath, then moisturize. If you are afraid to moisturize with coconut oil use olive. You just rub it between your hands like you would baby oil, then apply to your skin. Ellen [ ] itching I started to use 1/4 tsp of coconut oilt yesterday and today and have the itching back. I stopped the fruit and flax. Guest guest
am, My name is Glenn and I was on the treatment last year for 36 grueling weeks. I believe I encountered most of the symptoms. I went back to an e-mail I posted here. Here is what I wrote then about my itching: Glenn <miamiman33133@...> wrote: I'm on Peg-Intron & 1000 mg of Riba a day. I never spend more than 15 minute outside. The sun for me is so brutal right now. Here are a few things I did that helped; using Aveeno oatmeal bar soap to bathe with (no fragrance), Shampoo, again the Aveeno baby shampoo. Soap to wash your clothes, I change to hypoallergenic soap. Your skin is very sensitive to alcohols and fragrances. I also stop using colon or perfumes. Deodorant....if you look on the ingredient and it says aluminum's, alcohol or fragrances and it may be effecting you. I went to GNC and picked up there deodorant crystal. > > I developed a terrible itch that I endured for 5 weeks. For those 5 weeks I was consuming more than the recommended amount of Benadryl. It help some, but eventually a dermatologist gave me two scripts. Here they are just so you know what is working for me.Zyrtec in the am and Doxepin when I go to bed. If your itching last more than a few days do as I did and insist that your hep doctor refer you to a dermatologist immediately. > > What geno-type are you and how long have you been on the tx? > > Glenn L. That's what I wrote last year in October. The Zyrtec are pills and the Doxepin is a cream. I was itching everywhere. So I spread that cream on sq.inch of my body. The itching was really weird. My Eye lids, nostrils and my ear cavity. The cream worked IMMEDIATELY. Over all, it provided 95%relieve. Very little itching after that. I was geno type 3a with viral load of 2.5 million. Well I was on the tx last yr as I said, well here it is 7 months after my tx is over and my viral level in UNDETECTABLE. My Dr. considers me cured. Tell us about your treatment. please go into some detail. We all benefit from each others situation. You are in my prayers. I will light a dozen candle for everyone and ask that the monsieur to offer the mass to my hep brothers and sisters with there tx as he help me. Guest guest
am, Itching is a symptom of the liver disease. I don't know why. BUT I have found a lotion that you can buy in the medicated lotion section of the drugstore, Walmart is where I get it. It is called SARNA, it comes in regular and sensitive skin. I have found nothing better to stop the itching. I use it when I get out of the shower and it works great. Try it. God Bless, Tricia am Iman <anettexandria@...> wrote: I am so frustrated! Guest guest
could be that your viral load if elevated......my itching started about 2.5 million.....worse when I was at 13.2 million.......no matter what, how many cream I used....oatmeal soap (YARDLEYS) helps with drying the.....and i assuming you have psoriasis as well...........treatment is the only way that is the only way that i have had any relief to the itching......while still there....is not as bad and it's easily more of a relief.....good luck.........I was told it was the toxins that your liver is not clearing out normally (your billirubin levels) on your labs ih high, would do otherwise.....hope this helps....ask you liver doc about it....don't take my word on it.......I am merely passing along what i was told......good luck I know it's maddening... Guest guest
Itching as a result of excess histamine, can be helped with many OTC allergy preparations, and a d e c r e a s e of any folic acid and niacin that may be in many supplements, as they have a tendency to increase histamine production.
