So it appears your child probably has virus issues. Dana

I used OLE to eliminate bad bacteria, and start the anti-viral process. Viral die off caused a lot of yeast here, so I usually gave the OLE with biotin and GSE. Guest guest
, Kara, You originally asked about Olive Leaf Extract. Also, is it the best way to deal with a yeast problem as well as viral and bacterial issues? I am new to this group and I don't have Autism. I joined this group to get more information about mercury. I came to discover my high levels of mercury in the course of dealing with a Candida infection. So I have a different perspective than other members when it comes to Olive Leaf Extract. My Web research convinced me that Olive Leaf Extract has anti-yeast, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. In fact, many sites name OLE as the primary nonprescription treatment for the Epstein-Barr virus, as well as certain ear, nose and throat viruses. This is consistent with my own experience. I developed a Candida infection as well as two viral infections after taking broad spectrum antibiotics and steroids prescribed for a severe ear infection (never again). I took Nystatin (a prescription drug for Candida), Olive Leaf Extract and probiotics and eventually eliminated all three infections. As a side benefit, I haven't had a cold or flu in 2 years. Besides knowing that I was feeling better, I monitored my progress with ELISA blood tests every three months (which measured the levels of antibodies to Candida albicans, Epstein-Barr, etc. in my blood). So I am convinced of the effectiveness of OLE on both yeasts and viruses. As for any suggestions, I can only tell you what I do. I take Barlean's Olive Leaf Extract and I order it over the internet from iHerb.com. It's a liquid, it's more expensive and less convenient than capsules, and it tastes a little like cough syrup, but I love the stuff--and I need to take the liquid because of my many food sensitivities. (The liquid may also be good for kids who won't or don't take capsules, because I found that if you want to hide the taste, you can mix it with caffeine-free, diet cola.) As for dosage: Barlean's acknowledges that there is no " official " recommended dose but they suggest a basic maintenance dose of 1 tablespoon/day (children over age 2 should take half the adult dose). They also suggest a therapeutic dose during colds, flus and sinus infections of 2 tablespoons/day, and an acute dose for sore throat, swollen glands or fever of 3 tablespoons/day. I took 3 tablespoons for several months to eliminate my infections. Olivus is another good supplier of OLE in liquid, capsules, loose tea, tea bags and powder, and they also have a chart on their Website comparing the dosage for each form. There have been no reported toxicities or adverse reactions to OLE (based on modern research plus the experience of Mediterranean people who apparently have been taking OLE for thousands of years). Because it has no known adverse reactions, it is often suggested that the maintenance dose can be taken indefinitely. But you should be aware of a related reaction called a " die off " or Herxheimer reaction if you have a Candida infection when you begin or increase OLE (it occurs when too many Candida cells die off too quickly). You should also be aware that OLE may interact with some prescription medications—antibiotics, blood pressure lowering medicine, anti-blood clotting medicine, and diabetic medicine. I hope this helps.
