Guest guest
My 17-year-old son, diagnosed PDD-NOS, is going on a youth trip with church group to The Dominican Republic. The leader is recommending everyone get an arsenal of vaccinations but is not requiring it. He is telling me, at the very least, to have my son get the malaria vaccine. My son's last shots were after he entered kindergarten. I really dread giving him more shots. I remember after his 2-year-old shots (not sure which shot), he had a fever and would not stop crying that night. I called the doctor and he told me to give him Tylenol, which I did. I have since read that this is a horrible thing to do for a kid with a reaction. We went to Mazatlan several years ago and nobody had shots and nobody got sick. I don't have to do the shots, but am not sure what to do. Any sharing would be much appreciated. Beth
Guest guest
I thought the anti-malarial drug was a prescription med, not a vaccine. Check the CDC travelers' health site for updated info on travel related illness to foreign countries. I might be concerned about Hepatitis, for example, depending on where they are going to be traveling/staying. Guest guest
Oh, and I might also have a prescription filled for Zithromax or another antibiotic for him to carry... just in case. " Travelers' diarrhea " , you know! Pam > > > > My 17-year-old son, diagnosed PDD-NOS, is going on a youth trip with church group to The Dominican Republic. Guest guest
You don't have to get the shots. It's a recommendation not a mandate. I would instead get a homeopathic nosode for malaria if it concerns you or read up on how to protect yourself from getting it. And be sure he is sleeping under a mosquito net, using appropriate insect repellent...etc to prevent it. > > My 17-year-old son, diagnosed PDD-NOS, is going on a youth trip with church group to The Dominican Republic.
