Guest guest
It increases the transit time in the brain? I have noticed after using it 2 months that I have gained some weight..this maybe due to gut healing..Leanne From: misterboysmom@... Is anyone using 5-HTP or Tryptophan and seeing improvement in digestion? Deb
Guest guest
I meant it increases transit time in the gut. Weight gain would be a good thing for my boy. Have you had any bad experiences with it? Deb > > > It increases the transit time in the brain? Guest guest
Okay so it slowsdown metabolism?? increases time food is in the gut?? Well, I use it for sleep..but the funny thing is when I take 2 I cant sleep...but one at a time it is great...i take anouther 1/2 thru the night when I wake. I tried it with my son but he seems more cranky on it..so I pulled it..it all has to do with the neurotransmitter stack right..it has def deepened my sleep..and I think given me a wt gain..1 st time in my life..which is a good thing too. Maybe healed the gut, I am Celiac and never felt I was getting enough into me..now I do and I do not crave foods. I think children with autism do struggle with growth issues..or some do..thats the sense I get lately from all the posts I read..wonder if there are any studies on that. Guest guest
We're using 5-HTP and yes we're seeing improvements but mostly in the area of hyperactivity. I've not heard of it being used for constipation. I give 2 a day and 2 at night to increase calm and improve sleep. When we're dealing with constipation I use a Magnesium Citrate called Gilliam's Calm. Again Magnesium helps with hyperactivity but it also helps with constipation and it works extremely well to the point of almost too much stool at times so you have to find the right dosing. We sometimes do a weekend cleanse with the Calm and then a small dose for maintenance until symptoms improve. http://aydansrecovery.blogspot.com/ From: mrboysmom <misterboysmom@...> Subject: [ ] Re: 5-HTP or Tryptophan / constipation Date: Friday, February 11, 2011, 9:10 PM  I meant it increases transit time in the gut. Guest guest
I read that serotonin controls the bowel transit time. Slow transit = constipation because the lg intestine takes too much water out of the stool. I'm thinking increasing serotonin will increase transit time and reduce constipation. We can't use magnesium for constipation anymore. It seems to increase the stool volume but it still does not exit. Then he is severely bloated and in pain with rage. Did you ever try tryptophan as opposed to 5-HTP? Deb > > > > > > > > > It increases the transit time in the brain? Guest guest
No, we've only used the 5-htp but it is tolerated well and has seemed to garner some improvements. http://aydansrecovery.blogspot.com/ From: mrboysmom <misterboysmom@...> Subject: [ ] Re: 5-HTP or Tryptophan / constipation Date: Saturday, February 12, 2011, 11:49 AM Â I read that serotonin controls the bowel transit time. Guest guest
Deb..I see what you mean..i do not notice that effect on myself..my son has issues with constipation...i am trying to up his fiber and keep his water up..but with his diet and food selectivity this remains an issue..also it seems he was holding his poop..he is cognitively there enough to say he doesnt like a suppository and explaining the need to poop, and if he does poop he doesnt get one... seems at this point..to be helping things..Leanne From: april243@...
