Guest guest
Jessie, Rashes are one problem I didn't have while on combo (thankfully!). I know it can be a side effect of the ribavirin. Have you tried benadryl? If I find out anything else I'll let you know. By the way, I think you are doing the best thing to stay on longer. Guest guest
Hello everyone, I notice that many of you speak of the jra rash often. When my son had his first initial onset of systemic jra 5 years ago he had the classic jra rash for about 3 months. Since then he has never had it again,I wonder why that is.He has had his share of flare ups but never the rash again. Do all the kids on the list get the rash every flare? sometimes? only once? Guest guest
n had the rash everyday for eight months. It can still come and go, and it seems to come back when she overdoes. It definitely comes back when she flares: it will cover her entire body when she is in a flare. >From: Jitz45@... >Reply- egroups > egroups >Subject: Re: rash >Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 20:21:26 EDT > > >Hello everyone, I notice that many of you speak of the jra rash often. >When my son had his first initial onset of systemic jra 5 years ago he had >the classic jra rash for about 3 months. Guest guest
hasd a rash on her left leg (near the knee with the arthritis). The rheumy said it wasnt related to the arthritis. Isn't it funny thigh that s doing great and the rash is gone? I think the rash was due to the jra. Teri
Guest guest
Hi Jane: Not sure about anyone else. My daughter Mickey (now 6) was diagnosed at 3, but had been having symptoms for a year prior - fevers, periodic rash, apathy, lack of appetite, extreme lethargy, and difficulty walking, though she only ever said it was because her legs didn't " feel like " walking anymore. Since diagnosis though, she has not had the rash to any noticeable degree. When she is in the hot tub for physiotherapy, a " ghost " rash, very faint, shows up, but dissipates once she is cool again. So, no, we nearly never see the rash, and then only in a faint way that the doctors aren't interested in. Lynn Re: rash Hello everyone, I notice that many of you speak of the jra rash often. Guest guest
Could the rash be the skins response to swelling ?? Or perhaps temp change of the joint ? Marcie
Guest guest
Marcie, Funny you should say this... As the Skin is the largest organ, I have often though this is the case myself. In Skylers case the rash actually migrates across his body over the course of a few hours. If the rash is really dark it will leave a sort of shadow for a few days after it is gone, as though it has slightly damaged the skin cells. It is certainly a form of inflamation and it is definately related to reactions of the disease. I think we just tend to separate in our minds the difference between a rash and inflamation. Guest guest
To my knowledge there isn't anything that will help. The way I've understood the rash is to be when the disease is " active " . The things that I've learned that will make my daughters rash appear is: a warm bath, or when she is over-tired. Hopefully, this will help you a little. All in all, the rash is just part of the disease.
Guest guest
Depends on which version of the rash he has. If there is any type of swelling associated you can use a cortisone cream. If there are lesions or blisters you can use topical antibiotic or aloe. Heat will make it worse as will sweat. Good luck [ & Skyler] rash My son ryan 6 systemic jra his rash is comming up more often now we have our next appointment in about a week.does anyone know if any lotions will help the rash or does it need to be treated with the meds. we are new since ryan was just diagnosed last month and are only on naproxen at this time. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear about Amy. I know that "flare ups" are very discouraging. We are going through one ourselvers with our daughter. As for the rash, it is a "salmon" color-almost a pinkish (my daughter has a very fair complexion) and hers does not "itch" or "raise". The most common time that it appears is after her bath, but it will show up during a flare up or if she's sick. Usually her rash is on her chest, bottom and her thighs which I think are very common places for this rash. Sorry I don't have a whole lot of information to give you, but I hope this will help you in some way. I hope your daughter starts to feeling better soon and good luck with her dr's. appt. Guest guest
Robbie's rash did come and go (sometimes very quickly - it would be gone again in a few short hours and appear somewhere else or stay away entirely) - and never appeared to give him any discomfort or itching. It could be that this rash is something else? Good luck at the appt. Guest guest
My son Jordan (5) has had stills for a year now, with the rash being present right before his temp would soar, then after getting the fever down, the rash would almost dissappear as quickly as it came. It was mostly on the trunk of his body, down his legs and on his shoulders. He never complained of it being itchy, but that was our sign of fever about to spike again. Since having his injections and starting on MTX the end of Feb 2000, he hasn't had a fever and is running around like a 5 yr old should. He's now off indocin which he took 3 x's a day for a year too, and so far so good. Our ped here called it a Salmon rash as one of the other moms said, and that was his clue that Jordan could have JRA when he was first in hospital stumping all the docs. Good luck with the rheumy on Thursday Lori & Jordan - 5 - systemic/stills > My daughter Amy has systemic JRA, but she has never had " the rash " > associated with it, until last week. Guest guest
, You are right about eczema - it is the most miserable itch - I have had it for about two years - my skin ends up looking like a patch of leather and it cracks and bleeds. I use a steriod cream during a flare & then use lots of creams year round to try to prevent reoccurence. Guest guest
I can't exactly remember the rash, it came on very suddenly and I always thought it was like a "prickly heat rash". Small bumps and just large red patches. It actually went away while we were at the hospital, 3 weeks, and it hasn't come back since. Guest guest
My daughter, age 12-n, has systemic Jra. She has the typical systemic rash as described earlier, but hers itched terribly. I consider myself the pro on itching. She has had problems for two straight years, and we never could get any answers. I think we finally got an answer recently after visiting a new doctor-a second dermatologist. Along with her rash, and it started at the exact same time--she has exzema. The dermatologist said that sometimes you can't even see it, but it can be there--and itch terribly. This fall it got so bad, she was covered from neck to foot with exzema, and she had sores where she scratched so much. Hers comes in patches -circular-of little rough skin. It is a bit raised. I told the doctor that I did not want to start down the road of prednisone knowing how these kids get stuck on it. I didn't even want the steroid cream. There is a new medication out from Japan called Protopic that we have started using with good results. n says that it has helped with the itching. We put it on twice a day, especially after a bath, and then cover it with Cetaphil(an over the counter cream). It is very expensive-140 dollars for a small tube, but worth every penny. The dermatologist said we may have to use it everyday for about a month, and then only a few times a week, but for the foreseeable future she will be on it. Also, thru all of our trials and tribulations with the itching, I have found the rheumy to be of little help with it. We had to move to a dermatologist. Good luck. >From: contessa123992000@... >Reply- > >Subject: rash >Date: Tue, 04 Dec 2001 20:25:12 -0000 > >My daughter Amy has systemic JRA, but she has never had " the rash " >associated with it, until last week. Guest guest
I agree that colloidal silver could work or oil of oregano. What about MSM lotion? I've also read that you can mix colostrum in water and put it on your skin. If you are doing some kind of cleanse or detox, this could be your body's way of expelling toxins. Supposely, you detox in the reverse order of when/how you became toxic. Marsha

Guest guest
Sometimes this is enough. If it doesn't work then the person needs to think about anything different in their life. New medicine? Too much antibiotics etc. Be careful to stick to the BTD l00% of the time until all symptoms are gone!!
