No, you start small amounts and slowly increase, so there's no effect on

blood pressure. But you should also decrease slowly if they need to come

off.

He had NO bad side effects. He really had nice increased ability to

attend--stimulants and Stratera never did anything for that.

Here's an interesting blog from a doctor with his thoughts on Intuniv:

My son was on Tenex (guanfacine) for about 4 years. It really helped with

attention--was the only med that ever did.

It's an off-label use of a med developed for high blood pressure, so you

have to be careful with ramping them up on it. My son is now 17 and his

psychiatrist was concerned about him being on it as an adult. We weaned

him

off of it, but sadly, there has never been any good substitute for the

Tenex

and he continues to have difficulty with inattention in school.

Tenex is now marketed as Intuniv--which is the once daily, long-acting

Sorry--I didn't really answer your question. Yes, he seemed calmer and

better able to respond more appropriately--sort of calms them to the point of

being able to better process what's going on around them.

And my son's blood pressure has always been low as well. It was not a

problem, although we did monitor it often as his sister is a nurse so she could

spot check more frequently.

No anxiety.

I know several families who have used Tenex with good results.

My son didn't have stomach issues, but some yeast issues. It didn't

affect those things significantly at all, from what I could see.

I think my son's doctor was being ultra-conservative--taking him off of it,

as he felt the blood pressure-lowering aspect was not in general a good

thing. However, I do know he's kept a couple other patients on it, who are

over 18.

I actually have been considering him starting on it again, as it truly

helped his attention.

Thanks. He is 18, going to a pediatric neurologist who has prescribed Abilify,

Klonopin, and prozac. The prozac was bad that I just started backing him down

from it. I thought it was causing some kind of atypical seizure activity. His

whole body would tremble, he had tremors, and extreme night sweats. We are

currently looking for another doctor and I want to know more about this stuff

than I did the first time around.

Klonopin has terrible developmental side effects in children. It is an

extremely strong neurosuppressant. It's what we had to give my son to

immediately stop clusters of seizures. Can they give him anything else? It

also has terrible withdrawal symptoms.

Does anyone know if Tenex has development side effects???  My son's doctor

suggested putting him on Tenex to handle puberty (behaviors).  My son doesn't

have behaviors all day everyday, he'll probably have one once a month, but when

he does have one it's bad.  I can't just justify putting him on a medication

for

one behavior once a month.  Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeanne

Klonopin has terrible developmental side effects in children. It is an extremely

strong neurosuppressant. It's what we had to give my son to immediately stop

clusters of seizures. Can they give him anything else? It also has terrible

withdrawal symptoms.
