Guest guest
Hi, Where do you buy the Olive Leaf Extract capsules? I'm new to this list (joined today). We have a DAN! doctor. I want to ask him about Olive Leaf Extract next time we see him. We tried Valtrex for a few days but had a hard time getting our son to swallow pills. Also tried rinsing off the blue coating, drying them, crushing with mortar and pestal, and putting in juice (very bitter). A syringe with some strong tasting fluid to mask the taste of the Valtrex seems like the only way to go, but shooting it in his mouth 3x/day for a long period of time seems pretty difficult for him and me. What is the best way to get them to take it? Thanks! Guest guest
THis is not a reply to this question but I have a child who also does not take capsules or pills. I am interested in trying the Valtrex but concerned about "getting it in" my child. I would probably have to hold him down and force it down somehow as he also does not take capsules or pills. We have tried things like this before and it just is awful to try it 3 times a day and generally he spits much of it out. Is there a liquid that would be similar and not have such a terrible taste? THANKS! Jean -- RE: Re: Olive Leaf Extract Hi, Where do you buy the Olive Leaf Extract capsules? I'm new to this list (joined today). We have a DAN! doctor. Guest guest
Hi I'll check with the parents on the Phoenixkids list about this too, that's what I'm looking for also. I hear that Kirkman makes a syrup of some kind for this purpose, but it has Xylitol and/or Sorbitol in it. Maybe it's worth the trade-off, but I'd rather not. Our doctor said another family uses a raspberry vinaigrette dressing of some kind to mask the Valtrex flavor, since their child really likes the flavor. Shooting it in their mouths three times a day (I'm sure my son would spit it up too)--wow. Unless they like it, it wouldn't really work. I'm looking for suggestions on getting it in my child too, without difficulty, three times a day. Thanks, Cate RE: Re: Olive Leaf Extract Hi, Where do you buy the Olive Leaf Extract capsules? Guest guest
As far as OLE goes it tastes pretty bad too, we used it in Dec and could only get 5 or 6 drops per day in him. I actually had my prescription for Valtrex faxed to my compounding pharmacy. They have a dye free grape flavor. It’s still yucky but my son (who is extremely picky) will drink his whole drink down. I add it to juice with all of his supplements and nystatin. I taste it every time to make sure it’s not too offensive. The only time I had an issue was when I tried to give it to him straight in a syringe. The last dose I just add a splash of juice without all of the other offending supplements. I hope this helps. - From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of Townsend Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2006 9:39 AM mb12 valtrex Subject: RE: Re: Olive Leaf Extract THis is not a reply to this question but I have a child who also does not take capsules or pills. Guest guest
Stan crushed it and added it to lemonade, let it sit for 15 minutes, then had his son drink it. It still tastes pretty crappy, but it is doable. Anne > > THis is not a reply to this question but I have a child who also does not > take capsules or pills. Guest guest
Just to let you know, I couldn't get Valtrex mixed with anything in my boys either so I called Coastal Compounding Pharmacy in Georgia and they are able to make it in a liquid form with a variety of flavors (we went with bubble-gum, my boys are 3 and 5). it's not cheap but i really could not get them to not spit it out! Hope this helps. RE: Re: Olive Leaf Extract Hi, Where do you buy the Olive Leaf Extract capsules? I'm new to this list (joined today). We have a DAN! doctor.
