Guest guest
Once you add the ALA, you go for three hours during the day and four at night. I believe the longest you can " stretch " the dose is three and a half hours. Some kids need it every two and and half to feel okay. Barb [ ] Need Help to add ALA Hello All, We finished 8 rounds of AC chelation with DMSA 12.5 mg back to back. My 4 yr old SON who is on ASD has tons of Lead and Mercury.I want to add ALA 6.25mg to our 9th round. We usually do 26 to 28 rounds a bit longer than 3 days and take rest of the week off. My son goes ABA school only for 4 hr MON to SAT.We do other therapies but those are all only 1 hr sessions. We do Fri/Sat/Sun and go till Monday afternoon. Q1: Can i stretch one dosage of DMSA and ALA on Fri and Sat for 4hr during the time he is in ABA session Q2:If not I would to start the round with DMSA on Friday morning for every 4 hrs and add ALA later to the round after his ABA session on saturday evening and do DMSA/ALA for every 3 hrs till Monday. Please help me to make the right choice. --Thanks Nazeema
Guest guest
When you add in ALA, go to every three hours for both DMSA and ALA. Do the best you can, I think Andy states you don't want to be later than say 30% or one hour, so if you exceed four hours between doses because of some issue or conflict with school or something, you need to stop the round and try again the next weekend. We use the same dosage of both ALA and DMSA, So I would give 12.5 mg of both if he is tolerating the DMSA well. Guest guest
Nazeema, You should not stretch the ALA doses out to 4 hours. Pull him from ABA a little early and dose him then send him back. Also Sat morn to Monday morn isn't long enough for a round of ALA. I realize you are doing DMSA for the full three days, but it doesn't really work this way since DMSA only pulls from blood pools and not from brain. The portion of the round you would be using ALA in is too short. I know this isn't what you want to do, but you do not want to start experimenting on your child. The protocol works as it stands, people who begin to make alterations this early in the program are really setting themselves up for failure, and we can't afford to fail our children. I would sacrifice ABA before I would alter chelation. ABA teaches a child how to sit still and follow directions, it doesn't cure Autism. You have to put priorities in the proper order here. Chelation is number 1. ABA doesn't even make the top 10 for life long beneficial treatments of autism. You should begin chelators at 1/8mg per dose and then increase after 5 rounds IF you don't see any reaction. Just because your child does well at 12.5 mg of DMSA doesn't mean he will do well at that same dose of ALA (of course if 12.5 is 1/8mg per pound that is fine).
