It has been bloated for years and tends to be cool to the touch. Capsaicin (the active ingredient in this family of peppers) causes a channel to open in the cell at lower than normal temps. The channel usually only opens at 98.6F or above and apparently helps control body temperature. My guess is that it allowed my body to drain off fluid by opening channels in the cool-ish parts of my belly. It also has antimicrobial and antifungal effects and, historically, it is common for me to go to the bathroom more and see some moderate shrinkage of my belly when we are treating for things like that. But this was really dramatic. And the bloating has not come back. I have said for a long time that " when my belly is flat, I will basically be well " . This is moving that forward very rapidly. I also threw up before work on Friday morning and had to leave work early because I was so sick. I've thrown up at least once a month for over 4 years. What I throw up is something chemical. It's usually either very bitter or very sour and it feels really corrosive to my throat (and other tissues). When this first began happening, I thought I was " just sick " but it eventually became clear that some kind of chemical or chemicals were coming out of me and I eventually concluded that whatever is coming out of me is the stuff involved in " the normal progression of CF " which causes you to get sicker and sicker until you eventually die (often at a very young age). The defective channel in my body causes a bottleneck and the cells just get more and more out of whack and you get sicker and sicker. I have concluded that I am getting healthier because I have improved the bottleneck -- it almost certainly still exists but isn't as severely problematic -- and reversed the progression. All that stuff that has built up has to come out. I've thrown up a great deal more in the last year than I used to, a time during which I have made rapid forward progress in my health. So the capsaicin pushed this process forward somehow. I've done lots of walking every single day starting the day after we began with the habanero. Yesterday, I walked 7 miles and today I walked about 12. I live without a car, so some of this is just normal routine shopping but a lot is not. I have a great deal more stamina than I have had. Historically, I needed a long recovery time after doing these longs walks. I'm sunburned and tired and all that, but I feel pretty darn good overall. I am not dehydrating as easily as I used to -- something that has been improving gradually for a long time but is obviously greatly improved. These recent walks were much easier on me. The long walks we do have always been torture. Over time, they became less torturous but were still really hard on me (and helped push my healing process forward, so I put up with it but it started as something my son pushed for, not me). I didn't feel tortured this weekend on either walk until about the last mile of today's 12 miler. So really dramatic improvements in many important ways. I've done spicy food, including stuff with capsaicin in it, for a long time as a means to treat infection and move my healing process forward. But habanero peppers have way more active ingredient than other peppers I have consumed, so it's like taking a much more massive dose of it. I'm sleeping better too. That's all I can think of right now. And I'm exhausted. :-) Later.
