Guest guest
My daughter's tartaric acid levels came back extremely high on her OAT. (Reference range is 3.9 mmol/mol creatine or lower and my daughter's came back at 223 mmol/mol creatine). I did talk to about this and even adjusted, thought this was very high, too. Thing is, my daughter is also non-verbal and has apraxia. Has anyone else seen this or anything similar on their child's OAT? When I looked up what tartaric was, it is a muscle toxin. At extreme levels, I read that it can cause paralysis and death. So now it gets me kind of worried but it's good because I have a starting point and it means I should really bring this number down. The thing is, when I read about tartaric acid, the most abundant sources are in processed foods (we don't eat any processed foods and are on a 100% whole foods diet, except for very watered down juices and that's only because I can't afford a juicer right now). The other source is bananas and grapes, which she used to love but we had to eliminate them because they were a problem (I guess I know why now). She's also had a history of chronic diarrhea, and after some reading, I found tartaric acid is a known laxative. (DOH!) So I'm just curious if anyone else has seen significant levels of tartaric acid in their child and whether or not the child is verbal. It doesn't even have to be as high as my daughter's levels, but I was curious if this impacted speech. I'm cranking the probiotics right now. We had also done a comprehensive stool analysis at the same time and that came back indicating that Maia has no growth in several beneficial gut flora bacteria. I'm also cranking the biotin up lots, too. I was way under dosing the biotin. I also wonder if there's a change in speech capabilities when the tartaric acid is brought back down. Any thoughts, comments, personal experiences, etc. about this would be much appreciated.
