Guest guest
> What causes a carnitine deficiency and how does one know the child has it? For my son, carnitine was required for the proper absorption of fats, vitamin C, B vitamins, biotin, and TMG. Supplementing those items without adding carnitine, eventually depleted all of his carnitine stores and I had to supplement carnitine. I learned about it when supplementing those items eventually caused major problems but I could tell he still needed to be supplemented, and adding carnitine allowed him to absorb them again. Carnitine deficiency also causes poor muscle tone, playing with spit, drooling, and a few other things. > And how is it supplemented (dosage). Some kids do best with acetyl version, my son did best with l-carnitine. I started with 250mg per day and worked up. The most he needed was 3000mg 3x per day. Most kids seem to need 1000mg 1-2x per day. Dana
