Guest guest
I thought HBOT can cause more seizures. I have read quite a bit ont his. That is wonderful that you all have had good results. I wonder what the triggers are for increased seizure activity. I wonder if it has to do with the pressure-amount of time???? Is there anyone else out there who didn't do HBOt because of info about increase of seizures? Now, I am very curious Thanks, --- moniquegreg2000 <moniquegreg2000@...> wrote: > Robin, > HBOT is: hyper baric oxygen therapy. > Blessings, > > > > > > > > Has anyone here tried hyperbaric oxygen > therapy? Guest guest
My daughter ILINA is 3 years old and has Epilepsy and CP. we've done 80 HBOT sessions so far. 40 in a portable mono chamber and 40 in a hard mono chamber. We saw many improvements in cognition, communication, comprehension and fine motor. ILINA's seizures are mostly under control with Lamicatal. But whenever we start HBOT she starts getting seizures again. Sometimes in the chamber, sometimes right after or sometimes the next day. According to Dr. Neubauer, the author of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, risk of seizures while doing HBOT are a function of pressure, duration and frequency. So we tried to vary the pressure to see if it made any difference. We noticed that she has seizures while using higher pressures 1.4 - 1.7 atm. She does not have seizures with lower pressures, 1.2 - 1.3 atm, for 60 mins, once a day. Meghna > > > > > > > > Has anyone here tried hyperbaric oxygen > > therapy? Guest guest
We also use Dr. Stoller in Santa Fe. He explained it like this: HBOT can cause the seizure threshold to be lowered initially, but then it starts going up and is soon higher than when you started therapy. We never had even a temporary increase in seizures, only improvement. -- In , " L. T " <mrefus@...> wrote: > > I thought HBOT can cause more seizures. I have read > quite a bit ont his. Guest guest
we had great gains, especially language with HBOT. Would love to start agein, have not been for over 2 years. is it OK to do whilst chelating? Are there any risks/side effects? I once met a child at HBOT who was doing really well, when next saw him had regressed? Is this common? Could have been another cause as well. Don't know. Some do great and some tank, I don't know that you can predict so he says all should avoid until after chelation. Guest guest
Hi all, The reason I joined this group is to learn how I can get Medicaid to pay for HBOT. I asked the question in the past, but I did not follow up. Can someone help me please? I am in VA, and I have an autistic child whose DAN doc. suggested HBOT. Guest guest
Horia, There are two ways to go with autism...HBOT (1.5 ATA 100% O2) or HBAT (1.3 ATA air) (40-80 sessions each) However, prior to HBOT, your DAN dr might have checked your child for heavy metals, etc. So, before pursuing, HBOT make sure your son's heavy metals, etc. are managed. I assume your DAN has taken care of this. We've seen these difficulties in kids the CHERISH Foundation has treated when they are not prepared. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Horia, I live in NJ and have a son who is three with no diagnosis and multiple conditions. I have been taking him to HBOT since Jan of this year. HBOT is very expensive but I nor anyone in my family could deny the changes in my son. We had a benefit for him and were surprised at the out come and the kindness of others. Just a note that medicaid doesn't even want to cover my sons meds let alone HBOT. Its sad but I think it will be a long time till insurance companies wake up to the benefits of this alternative method to treat children and adults. The medical field does not think highly of HBOT. To them its like an unproven luxury. To parents and caregivers its a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with your child. Guest guest
Here is how I understand it from what I have read, heard, discussed and experienced. Let's suppose the child has heavy metals: These metals cause inflammation in the brain and the gut. That causes the child to react both in attitude and in the way the brain will grow. The brain is like a tree. If you were to create an insult in a young tree then over the years as the tree grows, that knot will grow as well. The metals/toxins are that insult and affect the shape and direction the tree will grow in.  Ok, I digress... Let's get back to the metals in this child. The body sees the metals as a toxin and the body's first reaction is to inflame around that toxin. So know you child is going about with a little molecule of mercury or aluminum or whatever and there is inflammation around that molecule as that is the only defense that his body has. As he grows, and his brain grows, that area of the brain does NOT grow as expected (kinda like that knot in the tree). And that is what we are fixing. Granted, in the gut, it is a bit of a different issue, as the gut inflames and does not process the food the little guy is eating and now he has all kinds of digestive problems. So as I see it, that is what screws up our kids. So now that we look at it in such a basic form... how do we go about fixing it? We have many protocols for the variety of symptoms he has. I won't even bother going into them. But where does HBOT come in. HBOT does on and ONLY one thing from what I have read and heard. Dr. Rossignol presented a paper once and he analyzed ALL the approved and unapproved indications and they had one thing in common..... drum roll... INFLAMMATION. So back to the kid with autism. He has a toxin and his little body has inflamed around that toxin. So what do we do. If we introduce him to HBOT, then the inflammation will go down and we should see improvement. But the toxin is still there so when we stop HBOT, the inflammation comes back (regression). But if we try to chelate, or clean him up with B12 or diet or supplements... maybe we will get farther. Kind of like our dishwasher. If we pre-wash (rinse) the dishes then the dishwasher will do a better job. But in the case of our kid (the dishes) and the crud (autism) what is the pre-wash and what is the dishwasher? If we attempts to 'clean him up' with the diet, supplements, chelation, B12... will those things be able to get thru the inflammation? Remember, inflammation is swelling and is a block in the capillaries and such. So maybe those things will not work as they cannot get to the toxin. But if we use HBOT first and get the inflammation down and simultaneously do the other detox protocols, we can lower the guard (inflammation) while the detoxers go in and get rid of the crud (autism). So here are the options: 1. HBOT first, detox next 2. Detox first, hbot next 3. Hbot and detox together 4. Detox, HBOT, Detox/HBOT Who knows what is best? Really no one as it has to be studied.  Oh... there is yet one more variable..... $money$ and that just makes a mess of it all. The hbot will cost $, the supplements cost $, the diet costs $ and so do all the detox protocols. So for now it is up to us (the parents) to go with our gut. And to have a doctor that understands our kid and our $$$ situation and suggest the best protocol. Then there is the APPROVED garbage we call ABA that insurance of the state will pay for. But that is purely training the child to live around the knot in their brain/gut and make due. Mind you, ABA is essential. It is education. But good health takes precedence over education. My 2 cents. ________________________________ From: brandi policastri <roxy_sinclair@...> medicaid Sent: Tue, June 22, 2010 11:28:29 AM Subject: Re: [ ] HBOT  funny b-cuz our dan! recommended hbot b4 she even checked for metals. then when i told her we could not afford hbot at the moment then she wanted to test for the metals. i was told u got to get rid of the metals first. geezzz just seems like these docs are so money hungry. trying out a new dan! next month. this will b our 3rd in 1 yr. grrr lol btw I'm brandi, new to the group :-P ________________________________ From: Ed Nemeth <nemeth@...> medicaid Sent: Mon, June 21, 2010 6:41:33 PM Subject: Re: [ ] HBOT  Horia, There are two ways to go with autism...HBOT (1.5 ATA 100% O2) or HBAT (1.3 ATA air) (40-80 sessions each) However, prior to HBOT, your DAN dr might have checked your child for heavy metals, etc. So, before pursuing, HBOT make sure your son's heavy metals, etc. are managed. Guest guest
Well it makes some kids better and a lot of them worse. It would not be good for a seizure kid or one prone to seizures. Here is some info from Andy: http://onibasu.com/wiki/HBOT I would probably use vinpocetine instead to increase blood flow to the brain. Much cheaper, less risky.
