Guest guest
RD, I think you're probably right but, if you're going to use toothpaste it's better to use one without fluoride. Guest guest
Phil, When I was a starving student in my late teens I made the same toothpaste as below. I didn't use sea salt, just whatever was cheapest. I had NO cavities before the age of twenty, but SEVERAL in my early twenties. I often wonder if the cavities were caused by stopping using fluoride toothpaste. Having a mouth full of amalgam is something else that gives me pause. I seem to remember some research that hydrogen peroxide used too much on the oral mucosa can cause cancer. I would think twice about taking my kids off fluoride toothpaste, but for older people I don't think that fluoride is necessary. Barb << Judy I also make a toothpaste with a 3:1 of baking soda to sea salt. I add enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste.I'm using some 2.5% I made from a 30% container. It does get my teeth much cleaner than regular toothpaste. But Patti has given me an idea;I'll try adding some peppermint oil I have on hand for flavor. Guest guest
Phil, I don't remember the source. I think it was mice developed oral cancer if their gums were exposed to a lot of hydrogen peroxide, don't know how that translates to humans... I did a quick search of Altavista and medical/dental sites, couldn't find anything. I mean it was a quick search, I have a long time dental phobia. Barb << Barb Thanks for the warning. Guest guest
perhaps pepsodent? Or pepsident? That rings some long ago bell to me. Donna -Subject: toothpaste And I have looked high and low for something that actually whitened the teeth and was healthy for the gums and was non commercial. And I think I finally found it. I really like this stuff. I think it was like $12 for a small bottle of powder, but you don't use much and I actually look forward to brushing my teeth instead of dreading it. Donna Donna, When I was very young (1950's) my mother used to buy a toothpaste powder that came in a small, maybe oval can(I think). The powder had a wonderful taste but for the life of me I can't remember what the name of it was. Seemed like the powder was white? Anyone remember this? Terri L. Guest guest
Well, I could be wrong, but isn't that just baking soda and salt, with some oils added. I don't like baking soda on my teeth because it causes my gums to bleed and makes my teeth sensitive. But thanks for sharing. I am always looking for a good toothpaste. Haven't found one yet. Thanks for all the info. So I mix my own with a lot of MSM crystals, a very little baking soda and some salt with oregano oil and or tea tree and or myrrh and or a citrus or mint EO. Aside: my dentist, who doesn't place amalgams but who also doesn't seem to know much about poison, told me to use a fluoride toothpaste to lessen tooth sensitivity. Why do you like it? How much does it cost? How do you purchase it? Hi Donna, I understand your hesitations. On the other hand, as you say H2O2 is sure cheap. Here's the info on the toothpaste I use: - Contains: Sodium bicarbonate; sodium chloride; grain alcohol; oils of peppermint, wintergreen, and wild oregano, and full spectrum light treated. It costs $8.75 for a 3oz jar. It's powderlike. Not cheap, but it goes a looooong way for us since we need to use only a small amount. In the US you can get it from Self Health Resource Center in CA; phone # is ; web page is: www.shrc.net; e-mail is: info@.... The company name on the jar is: Wholesome, 2527 Snowdrop Street, San Diego, Ca, 92105. Why I like it: - I've always had a hard time with any/all toothpastes. they burn. all of them. So, first, this one doesn't burn. Also, it feels GREAT in my mouth, during and after, feels really clean [meaning no bacteria anymore]; it whitens my teeth smoothly/progressively. My gums look and feel healthier even after using it only once. Furthermore there is absolutely no pain (even stops it for me) and no bleeding, even though I have very sensitive teeth/gums. Plus, I like the taste. Abutilon

Guest guest
Hi Sara Lou. What a great Idea. Thanks. I have done some stuff in the past with peppermint oil because it is such a great cleaner and leaves the teeth feeling really clean and smooth, but it is such an appetite stimulant that I stopped using it. I think I will try the oregano oil or citrus. I have lots of msm powder to add it too. Donna -----Original Message----- I don't remember where I read it...but MSM whitens teeth. s' book.
