Someone mentioned not using tooth paste with glycerin in it.

I know many advise not using toothpaste at all, but do any of you have any

recommendations for toothpaste that does not have glycerin or any other harmful

ingredients and tastes good (maybe minty?)

Thanks,

I've heard just using baking soda...I've never tried it myself. On Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 12:44 AM, anetaze <anetaze@...> wrote:

Hi again,

I read somewhere that you can make your own homemade toothpaste by mixing peroxide, sea salt, and baking soda. Has anyone had experience using either this formula or another homemade formula that you can share - hopefully a formula where your teeth won't fall out while using it :-}.

Thank you,

My dentist recommended half baking soda, half salt and I've been using it for

years. Mercola recommends it too though I think he recommends more soda. Works

great!

I make my own.  Here are a couple sites with info:http://www.greatcakessoapworks.com/handmade-soap-blog/index.php/chomper-polish-tutorial/

http://lilithsapothecary.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/herbal-remedies-tip-5-herbal-tooth-whitener/http://www.saveyourteeth.com/

http://www.tammysrecipes.com/homemade_toothpasteI have made and liked using the first recipe without the soap and added calcium carbonate and sea salt.  I have tried tooth soap too, but don't see the need if you have other things that kill germs in there.  The tooth powder leaves my teeth so clean feeling!

I have been using Tropical Traditions tooth cleaner recently though because I read somewhere that baking soda and salt can be too harsh of a scrubbing agent to use all the time.  I am not sure if that is true or not.  The Tropical Traditions cleaner is probably pretty similar to the Tammy's recipe one.  It is ok - it works and is gentler than the tooth powder I was making.  I still use the tooth powder a couple times a month.

I also saved this recipe for " OraMD " that I found somewhere on the internet that I wanted to try next.  I can't remember where I found the  recipe below but I think I just googled OraMD and came across it.

***You can make your own ORAMD for a tiny fraction of what the company charges. ORAMD has 3 ingredients, peppermint oil, spearmint oil and almond oil. Buy them online and get more peppermint than the other 2. I use 3 tablespoons of peppermint (it has the strongest anti-bacterial action), 1 tablespoon of spearmint and 1 tablespoon of almond. This will fill 3 ORAMD containers and costs less that 5 dollars. I cannot tell the difference from ORAMD with this ratio.

Glad to be of help. I buy the oils online at Nutritiongeeks. A four ounce peppermint oil will end up making 12 small bottles (3 tablespoons = 1 oz. and 3 tablespoons using the formula make 3 small bottles). That plus two 1 oz. spearmint and one 4 oz. almond (smallest they sell) costs about $27. 12 bottles of ORAMD for $27 is pretty good. Have fun!***

This is the original site for OraMD. http://www.oramd.com/

Hi Aneta I also make my own - here is the link to the recipe:http://www.oldpathsfamilyfarm.net/blog/2008/04/04/yummy-homemade-toothpaste/It's basically coconut oil, baking soda, mint essential oils and stevia. I divided the recipe right down to a small amount so I could try it out first, and I love it. It's salty at first but you soon get used to it. The only thing to be aware of is that as coconut oil is solid at cool temperatures, it's not a good idea to spit it down the sink, or eventually your pipes would clog (I imagine). Luckily as all the ingredients in here are totally safe, you can just swallow it. Now what kid doesn't like swallowing the toothpaste? :)Good luck!JaneOn 11/01/2011, at 5:14 PM, anetaze wrote: Hi again, I read somewhere that you can make your own homemade toothpaste by mixing peroxide, sea salt, and baking soda. I use a wonderful toothpaste, which I'm sure we could make, at our local

farmer's market last summer. It's primarily baking soda, sea salt along with

essential oil of peppermint and spearmint.

I have been using pure baking soda for about 10 yeas. I keep it in a sugar dispenser and just moisten my toothbrush, pour on a bit and give a good scrub. Every once in a while, I will gargle with peroxide if I feel a sore throat coming on, or any mouth discomfort. If you want that "minty fresh" feel, you can add a drop of peppermint essential oil to the baking soda in the dispenser. I have used sea salt, but I find it too abrasive. My teeth and gums are in great shape after years of doing this. From: anetaze <anetaze@...>Subject: Toothpaste Date:

That sounds like a really cool one.  I am going to be moving, so I already looked up where my new local farmers market...and I found this one that sounds awesome that is open year round, and it just looks like it is going to have an amazing amount of items.  I am really looking forward to visiting this new market every Saturday morning once I move.
