Hi Elaine,

I did the Master Cleanse 5 years ago. It was wonderful until I vomited the

salt-water up! I may have been using the wrong salt (sea salt instead of epsom

salt). I will be trying it again tomorrow when I do my liver flush, using the

epsom salt this time. Maybe the liver/gallbladder flush will help you (have you

done any)? I will let the group know how it goes.

Welcome to the group.

God bless,

Yes I have done a few liver flushes. I was amazed at the amount of

yuck that came out. I get lots of gas when I do liver. I haven't

heard of using epsom salt. I always used " solar salt " it is a rock

sea salt---rock vs fine grain. I never had a problem with it until

just recently

Salt (not Epsom salts) is what's prescribed in the Master Cleanser

(which I have no experience with). Some people, maybe with sensitive

stomachs, throw up when drinking lukewarm salt water (I'm not talking

about Epsom salts now, but ordinary salt). Warmer water is much

easier to get down, but, for some reason, it says lukewarm in the

Master Cleanser. In the yoga bowel cleanse, you drink some 16-30 cups

of warm salt water in one morning (there's more involved, so don't

try this on your own); only rarely someone throws up.

I don't know if you can equal salt and Epsom salts: they could

function in different ways. With salt, the point is the correct ratio

between salt and water: it will prevent the mix from being absorbed

by the blood and from going through the kidneys. With Epsom salts,

it's more laxative the more salts you put into the same amount of

water. I'm not sure what the mechanism is, but I think irritation of

the gut lining, expelling the liquid, is involved. As far as I

understand, ordinary salt water (with the correct ratio) is not

strictly a laxative, but just passes passively through the system,

while the Epsom salts " do something " in your body.

Deborah,

I have the Prescription for natural healing also, and love it. The

other two books are supposed to be good also. I make tinctures also for

me and family. Whatever you do, you need to cross reference the herbs

to pharmaceuticals to make sure they are ok to take together. Bugelweed

shouldn't be taken with thyroid meds, and I have read many times that

kelp is not good for Hashimotos, so research is important. I began

taking dandelion tincture for my liver, since it has to work overtime,

and may make a combo tincture of milk thistle etc. to make it even

better. Just a " maintenance " thing. You can go to www.about.com and

type in thyroid and you will be able to go to Shomons site that's

filled with info. I think someone else here has the shortcut URL. I

wish you luck on your journey, as I still have the same symptoms as you

and still trying to work it out. ;)

Take care,

Hello Everyone,

I have been lurking for a week or so and want to send in my introduction

and am now getting brave enough to begin asking questions and telling a

little about my history. I am 45 years old, have been on thyroid

medication for several years in my youth and then again for the last

couple of years. Sad to say that for most of my life I have thought that

the doctors at least knew what they were doing even if they made

occasional mistakes.

The last 8 years have been really bad for me as we tried to get pregnant

again and then finally decided to go to a fertility specialist and he

said, wow your thyroid numbers are really out you need to see your

regular doctor. My tsh was in the 4000's. The highest my doctor and the

endocrinologist he consulted with had ever seen even though my t3, t4

and t7 were in low normal range. So they put me on synthroid. I have a

multi-globular goiter which is why I went on thyroid medication when I

was 12 for about 6 years then the doctor took me off and said I was fine.

I guess my biggest problem right now is how to get educated. Until a

friend also went on thyroid medication and her doctor was also

prescribing other things like B vitamins to help with her symptoms did I

begin to realize that I might not just have to live with the way I feel.

The bone deep weariness, the body aches, not getting pregnant, not

being able to loose weight. My first doctor told my mother that I had a

two-fold problem. Of course the goiter was of concern but they were

mostly concerned with burning out my pituitary gland. The doctor also

said that I had what he called a starvation liver and that there was

nothing to be done about it. He said that my liver was very efficient

about producing the hormones that stored fat and did not produce hardly

any of the hormones to release fat. This was his reason for my being

massively hypoglycemic. He put me on a high protein diet. Over the years

I have been up and down the weight scales and now matter what diet

program I went on if I stayed at 500 cal a day or less I lost weight

but who can live for their entire life on less than 500 cal? I just gave

up about 8 years ago and said what ever I end up at but now I am finding

out there might be some natural or homeopathic ways to help me get

healthier. Now this is not to say that I am very careful about what I

cook, etc. This is slowly changing in our household, more fruits and

vegetables, more juicing, etc. I hope it is ok to be on this list to

gain information and support. Right now, I don't know enough to give

anyone advice back.

So now I am on a quest for knowledge. So my question, where do so many

of you get your information from? I am looking on the net but wow,

millions of topics, many from either the allopathic world or from

companies selling natural remedies. To be honest their claims don't seem

any more realistic than the allopathic claims. Is there a basic health

book that you all use that discusses all alternatives, allopathic -

herbal - homeopathic?

Just very confused and somewhat angry -- it is probably too late for me

to have more children and now I learn it could have been helped but I

might still have a chance if I can get my body working very quickly. Of

course it might just be too late.

I have the Prescription for Natural Healing book (which I use a lot) and

a couple of other books that have not proved to be very easy to use. One

is the Green Pharmacy and the other is Back to Eden. These books talk

from the perspective that I have herbs and know how to make tinctures

etc. They are not very practical right now.

Sorry this is so long.

Blessings,

Deborah

Deborah,

welcome to the group. The book that helped me the most was " Living Well

With Hypothyroidism " by Shomon. I got it at and Noble, but you

can get it on Amazon. Wow I can't believe your TSH was so high - how did

you function? Isn't that level life threatening? What is your TSH now?

Hello:

I got your email. I am a 23 year old woman who is

dealing with a thyroid problem and am also realizing

my doctor hasn't been doing as much as she could to

help me. I found a website that had a lot of good

materials online, as well as books, etc and a monthly

subsription to a thyroid magazine.

The web address is http://www.thyroid-info.com. I

believe there was a link from amazon.com at one time

as well. I can't think of the address right now. I

hope this helps.

Also......I have been struggling with gaining weight

as well. I exercise every other day and eat well. I

am still gaining weight.

I have ordered the Goddess Diet and " Livng well with

Hypothyroidism " ...But I am incredibly worried. I am

23 years old an unable to enjoy life like an average

23 year old. I get tired and cranky easy, and my body

aches for days after I am done exercising.

Deborah,

My best source is the about thryoid website. Also I read the book by Dr.

Broda " Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness " this book I

believe was written in the 70's but it was on target. And recently I

found this group and when I have a question or just want to read messages

its here. Welcome!

Hi Deborah, I also was infertile due to mismanaged thyroid. The allopathic

medical world seems to think they know what they are doing and I think they

are dangerous. There are some good doctors though. Shomon's site

www.thyroid.about.com has a topdocs list, my favorite is www.brodabarnes.org

also has doctor referral and they seem to know how all the hormones work

together.

Thanks for such a warm welcome from everyone plus all the book and

website recommendations. Tomorrow dh gets paid so off to and

Nobels to find a couple of books.

, one of my problems is that I don't know what my last test results

were. We were in Arkansas at the time and I had a scan of my goiter done

and all they said was everything was normal. The nurse wouldn't tell me

what it all was and then within a couple of weeks we got transferred to

Houston. My dh began at a new company and we are now waiting for

insurance to kick over it's pre-existing clause time to go back to the

doctor.

In the meantime, I am trying to educate myself. What I need is a direct

feed into the computer so my brain can process all the information it is

receiving.

Again, thanks for the welcome.

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear your story. How very frustating! There is a

good group of people here who've faced similar situations. What is your

average daily temperature? What is your last TSH test? Is it low? How many

different meds have your docs tried? Or have you only been on synthroid?

Just curious.

You can learn a lot by reading from the message archives of this list. Go to

.com, sign in with your account info, then select this group and

from there, select the messages. That will catch you up plus, you'll

undoubtedly find some things there that can help you right away like what

foods to avoid or what vitamins to take away from your thyroid meds. Here are

the three top sites I like to refer new people to:

I understand the fatigue also. I think a cleanse would be great to do

once a year. I did one last year, but it was cosly, so haven't done one

this year. I did feel more energetic after doing it. I also drink a

liver detox tea every morning, as your liver has SO many functions, and

if it's clogged up, (working overtime) the other supporting organs get

clogged up and has a chain reaction so to speak. Every few months I

take a liver/gallbladder tincture for a week also. ;)

Hi all,

a bit of advice please. I have seen 4 drs inc one I am told is the best in the

UK for thyroid problems.

I wont go into big details on my past history but I had my Thyroid removed in

Oct 1999.

I was sought of ok until November last year when I noticed I go t bad Cramp and

felt cold, this turned out to be the water softener that I had switched on about

that time, why it caused my problems I just dont know.

I now find I am really cold my wife is running around in her night dress and I

am with a track suit bottom and a vest and Fleece on and just about feeling

warm. I also have this really nasty itch in my right lung, I do suffer with

asthma.

All my blood test are spot on mid range, I know if I take any more T4 My heart

starts racing and I feel short of breath so I would agree that my blood is fine.

The cold ness I have been warned that may be a problem as Patients with out a

thyroid do feel the cold, is that TRUE.

also I have noticed that this itchy lung only happens abut 40 mins after taking

Thyroxin and goes abut midnight. I sweat through the night.

I have tried Armour but on I grain my T4 is right but my T3 goes to 11.7 and I

feel short of breath.

I asked to day about t3 t4 synthetic tablets. Has any body gone on this and

found it better would it make much difference to the body when my blood test

come back fine.

I have been told to day to try and take an inhaled steroid for my asthma but I

am sure that this upsets me it give me palpitations and upsets my heart which I

know it should not do.

I am very allergic types and this has come back through my blood tests, any

ideas and has any else had a similar effects. Any small help would be great no

matter how small as I would love to hear from you., I have very low energy

levels/

With Thyrolar, it was similar to Armour. I did lose about 8 pounds, but

gained it back. ;( Also, Thyrolar made my hairloss worse (alopecia) but

I haven't heard anyone complain of that side effect except me. I think

I liked Thyrolar better than Armour tho. Sorry I'm so vague.

Elaine, I used a zapper one time and it took away

my back pain and my headache. This was nice but it

didn't remove the cause of these problems. I belived

my bowel condition was the cause. But I was surprised

that it did remove pain. Please be sure you don't

ignore surgery if you really need it. I am glad you

said that you didn't consider it a " cure " , Whew!

Funny how this device can relive pain, but I wanted

others to know, not to feel that this device can

remove a standing problem. If your pain was from the

critters then they won't come back. :)

Someone on one of the electro therapy groups uses

a device on himself while he goes to the dentist. It

kills the pain and he doesn't need a shot. The dentist

was surpised that this worked, so was I. I don't know

which device he uses tho.

My condition is a twisting of the ovary. I personally think it

twisted so many times it possibly became open to virus and bacteria

or parasites.. The side effect that I refered to was the twisting of

the ovary. Turns out there is a .1% chance of that. Seems benign

until you are the 1 in 1000 that has the side effect. I can't

imagine how many infertile women take clomid. I also was diagnosed

with low thyroid recently. I believe the thyroid and the ovary are

very connected, Maybe it was an injury to the thyroid that triggered

the ovarian tortion. I actually took a major blast to the colar bone

just where they come together. This happened about 6 months before I

suddenly started having tortions. My pain is very intense. I

figured out how to stop the tortion once it started, but I wanted to

stop it from starting. The surgery would have come from either a

rupture to the ovary during a tortion, or the pain was so

debilitating it controled my life---that is where I was. Vurnerable

and in constant pain for the last month. I don't know that I need to

zap every week. I just don't want to take chances. Dr. says

in her book that the thyroid won't heal itself until you clean you

mouth. Hence the next step---get rid of the amalgam. I'll be cured,

I know---I just didn't know until I went to the dr. that I was a

classic low thyroid. I'll list my symptoms for those intersted.

First sign was I was way over dressed for the season. I was freezing

all the time. Usually weight is an issue--but I have almost normal

weight. My blood pressure is 90/50 and my pulse is 52. Bp is

usually hign in hypo thyroid. Pulse should be in the 60's. I always

thought the lower the better. not so! My basal temp was 98 it

should be 98.4 at the least. Another sign that an applied

kinesiologist (sp) picked up was that my feet were cracked more so

than usual. I go bare foot a lot. Usually the skin is dry--I

suddenly got dandruff. I was looking at the ovary and not considering

that the entire endocrine system was involved. I guess I could do a

search and find out what percentage of clomid users have low

thyroid. My question is why the heck didn't the ob/gyn pick this up

9 months ago---I had to go to a natural dr. to find this out. He

says that the dr. could lose his ability to use the hospital if he

uses methods that don't go along with hospital policy. OB/GYN should

have still picked up the low bp and quetioned that---instead he said

wow!!! Clomid causes polycystic ovary which I did cure myself of a

few years ago thru cleansing.---Not to mention I got pregnant at the

tender age of 42. The cure won't happen over night I know that, I

don't expect that, but thru cleansing it will happen. as they say in

Austin---Onward thru the fog.

Elaine--on the path to being cured! ;-)

You may also want to join Lyme Aid Documents. You can join from here:

-Documents/

Lyme Aid Documents are messages from Lyme Aid. However they are messages

that have specific information in them, no personal dialogue. This group

was created knowing that Lyme Aid would generate a lot of email making the

archive hard to search through.

Lyme Aid Documents may have more of what you're looking for.

Let me know if you have any questions!

[ ] Introduction

Hi,

My name is . I'm a graduate student, 30 years old, and I live

in Connecticut. Apparently everyone in this little valley (where I

just moved at the beginning of June) has either had Lyme or has a

pet or family member who has had it. Lots of research around here

and stuff too, so you'd think the doctors in this area would know

what they're doing? Do they? I'm not sure, which is why I'm online

asking questions.

I have a sort of long story with question (at the end) to tell/ask.

I looked in the archive to see if I could find an answer there. Not

easy, since if you type in " doxycycline " you get quite a few results

and I can't imagine how to narrow this search. I'd type " what do I

do? " but then that seems a bit vague as well. So if it's ok, I'm

going to post a rather long story. Please read the question though,

because it's really important to me to hear if anyone has an

answer.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply!

My chiropractor suggested calcium/magnesium supplement for the cramps. So,

I've been trying to take one pill a night as well as a potassium pill to see

if that helps (along with, at times, ibuprofen). It is just so hard with all

the stuff out there to know what doesn't counteract one another so I do, to

be on the safe side, never take anything in the morning besides my Levoxyl.

All other meds I spread over an hour period before I go to sleep at night.

I know what you mean about the docs. I've decided to wait until the doc gets

back from maternity leave and try to see her to get her take on things. It

would be nice for a change to actually have a doctor " listen " to me when I

tell them I feel like crap!

Thanks for letting me rant!

Hi .

I picked up Perfect Food at a local health food store.

The owner actually recommended it for my 2 year old

who was suffering several ailments at a time

(impetigo, yeast rash and anemia) to boost her immune

system. When I started reading about it I realized it

might help with my candida too.

The Perfect Food comes in 2 styles -- one with HSO's

and one not in HSO so make sure if you want the HSO

you get the Original Formula -- which doesn't come in

capsule form. It tastes like grass but when you are

desperate -- like me -- it is tolerable :).

I did some searching on the Net and found

http://www.primaldefense.net which seems to have

really good prices. I paid MSRP of $44 and this place

had it for around $31 so next time I'll probably order

it from there. I would suggest that you do some more

searching and maybe you'll find a better deal.

Sorry, such a long answer for a simple question.

Janice

No, they are two different products. Perfect food is a super green

food that is great for building up the immune system. You can read

about each product here: www.tropicaltraditions.com
