Hello Reid:

I was discussing this topic with my LLMD last week...because

my hubby is considering a job change and I am concerned bout

preexist clauses etc...especially now that I have liver disease

also. He told me that in our state...(NJ) and he believed other

states as well, that if your employer has 100 employees or

more than their can be NO PREEXISTING CLAUSE. I remember

when my hubby started his current job...I waited 6 months before

seeing any doctor because that was what it said in the membership

booklet....regarding preexist conditions...now I found out that they

could not have refused to pay anyway....

I am not sure of the origin of this law...if it is state or federal...

hope this helps...

love ya,

Fransea

around and we have over 4 other cases againdst them for various illegal

things they pulled....they offered me cobra...at a cost of $1300 per

month....lol....so no i have been using the va.....did not even take medicare

part b till now as i did not need it for the va....it wil kick in in july(

the part B) as my wifes insurance demands that i take it and they will be the

secondary.....better then nothing.....

what we really need imho is socialized medicine....so many people lose

Reid--

Were you covered under another policy prior to her getting that job? If you

were, at least

in my state, if you get a certificate of insurance from the previous carrier,

there is no

waiting period for a preexisting condition because it considered continuous

treatment. This

is state of Ohio.

there is no question that we need socialized medicine .... Clinton tried to get

a form of

this passed, I believe it was about6 years ago...but the dr's and the ins co's

lobbied very

hard against it and they have very big money to back their campaign...I

understand Canada (or

at least Ontario) is socialized medicine and it is financed by a sales tax..if

you travel

there you will definitely notice the jump in sales tax...anyway, I just wondered

if anyone

from the group here is from Canada and could give us some input as to how it

works...is it

like an hmo? is it restrictive? would we be able to be treated for lyme by the

llmd of our

choice or whould they tell you were to go and who would treat you and that is

that take it or

leave it...I do not know that is why I bring it up....I see my son struggling as

a young

person (21) in a dead end job with little benefits and now he has been dsx with

lyme and all

his testing was not covered by insurance (technicality ... he was enrolled as

full time

student which made him elegible under my insurance..but then the lyme stuff hit

and it was

too much for him and he had to drop one of the classes..this dropped him below

fulltime

status according to insurance co so they have rejected coverage!!!!)and neither

will his

treatment...and there is no coverage for the working poor in our country...if

you are under

19 you qualify for some dependent coverages via the government and if you are

over 50 you can

qualify for some programs...but the woman at human services told me there is

nothing for

those in the middle to help them if they get sick and need treatment of anykind

unless they

are on welfare...This is so screwed up in our country...if you are working to

try to better

yourself you don't qualify, if you sit on your duff and do nothing (I am not

refering to

those who are sick here, I am refering to healthy people, I know all to well

lyme can render

you unable to do anything) you qualify...so if he does nothing he could qualify

for welfare

and get treatment now or continue as it is and wait for it to totally knock him

on his butt

(more serious stage) and then they will cover him because he would not be able

to work....our

system stinks...how will he survive??? I don't know I am so freightend for my

son....
