It is not a technical name as much as it is a " positional " name. " Plantar " refers to the bottom of the foot, so a wart found on the bottom of the foot is known as a " plantar wart " . If the wart is on the top of the foot...it is NOT a plantar wart. Therefore a wart on the wrist is not a plantar wart either. If you find a wart on the palm of your hand that would be a " palmar " wart. Get it. Long ago doctors just loved to complicate things by giving the same thing different names if found ondifferent parts of the body. Go figure. At least it beats all the Latin names they had for everything for so long. Also... plantar warts can be a " mosiac " wart, a " solatary " wart, and if one big circular wart forms and is followed later by little ones all around the original big one... they call the big one that came first the " mother " wart and all the small warts around it the " daughter " warts. I kid you not!!! Sometimes, in fact many times, the only way you cantell what a lesion is that you have growing someplace is to have it cut off and biopsied. I have cut off many things that looked like warts but turned out to be a skin cancer lesion forming. A final word of warning... if you have a wart or mole and it has been around for awhile, and suddenly it starts to change color, grow hairs, begins to split, bleed, etc...... get it removed and biopsied fast as you can. Those are all severe warnings signs of skin cancer. (Yup, a mole or wart can convert to a skin cancer at any time, and very fast).
