Guest guest
My roomate had 4 cervic levels fused to years ago, she has done great. She has a great range of motion, except for the scar, you would not notice any change. She was concerned about the range issue, and she is very pleased with it. Guest guest
Hi Shonda! 25 is a low dose, lowest. I started on 50 and had a TSH of 6.9. That lowered my TSH to 3.04 in 8 wks but didn't make me feel better. A normal dose for someone around 130 lbs is 100. Ask the dr if you can start at a higher dose if you don't have health risks for heart disease (high bp, old age, high cholestrol, etc). If you don't feel better on synthroid (synthetic), try armour (made from pig) and/or cytomel (synthetic). Get a bunch of books from the library on the subject and read, read! Good Luck, > > Hi!! > My name is Shonda and I was tested for a thyroid problem > last week. Well my doc called today and told me my TSH was at > 8.93,and so he prescribed synthroid 25mcg. Guest guest
My mother in-law takes armour now and she LOVES it!! my doc said he is going to give it a month and retest me to see how well I am doing on the 25 and then most likely raise it. The more I read the more I feel I should be taking a stronger dose. I am going to call in the morning and discuss it with him. Guest guest
Where do you live? I live in rural Maine and have sometimes traveled 2-3 hours to go to a good doc, have also treated myself which saved my life. My test results were " normal " for 30 years after a partial thyroidectomy. Look at http://www.geocities.com/thyroide for topdocs. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your story. I absolutely know what it is like to have to fight to get diagnosed and treated properly. I, too, have found a great LLMD who has changed my life over the past couple of years. Symptoms DO return just when you think they are gone, and NEW and exiting ones appear as well. It can definitely be frustrating, but who knows it best than all of us! I think it is fabulous to have others experiences and thoughts to help us all. The Yeast Cleanse has many ingredients so it makes it difficult for you to know what you may react to. I suggest simple products so you will know. I don't recommend cleanses because you need to build up your immunes system and they can interfere with whatever nutrients you are able to absorb. It appears as if you are trying to do too many things at once. This can overwhelm your body, bypass it's healing mechanisms and drive you crazy trying to figure out what is wrong. It would be better to start on the diet first, get it down pat, and then do the next step. You will also have better success, because the diet is the most important aspect of getting well. Coconut oil is a powerful antifungal and very important for proper functioning of the entire body. You can add it right away with the diet. I don't recommend Flax Oil for several reasons: 1) it goes rancid very easily, 2) it is not a good form of omega-3 because it has to be converted by the body to a form it can use. The best form of omega-3 is fish oils (taken in the summer) or cod liver oil (taken in the winter) doesn't have to be converted. Many people with candida are unable to make the conversion necessary by Flax Oil. This morning I had 1/3 of> Bee's strained lemon drink (olive oil, lemon and water) with breakfast of> eggs and brown rice hot cereal, and it made me nauseas. Is this normal,> and will it continue to make one's stomach sick? ==>There is no olive oil in the lemon drink I recommend; it's only 1/4 teaspoon of a good ocean sea salt (like Celtic) and the juice of 1/2 of a lemon. You possibly felt sick because of either the olive oil being rancid, or the brown rice which is very high in carbs, and acts just like sugar in the body. I do not recommend any grains, including brown rice, at the beginning. Also, has this helped> many others to gain weight? I'm afraid I won't want to eat if my stomach> does not feel better soon. ==>My stomach was my weakest spot when I had candida too, and I also loss weight. My stomach reacted terribly - at one point I was losing 3 lbs. a day and could only eat 9 foods for a few months. I had no choice because anything else came back up. You probably need to be on a very strict diet for awhile, esp. no grains, beans, nuts, soy, sugars (including fruits), etc. as outlined in my main article. There is a " Food List " in the files too, as well as " The Candida Diet in a Nutshell " . They'll all help you understand why your diet should be so strict, and help you to shop for the right foods. The diet I recommend is not like most out there. Weight is the least of your problems at the moment. You could try going on the 5 day diet which is pureed foods and enemas, which really helps with stomach problems too - see " Digestive Problems " in the files. > Bee, for this group. ==>You are so welcome. Education is the key my friend. Guest guest
Bee, I am sorry, I thought that recipe was from you on the other group. I think it was just too strong from the lemon and burned my stomach. I did read your diet, and didn't realize the brown rice was for later use. I guess that means no quinoa and buckwheat. Also, I tried to find coconut oil yesterday, but everyone was out of it. I will have to order it. Do you like a certain brand? Guest guest
Thanks Chuck - For the record I have stopped hitting curbs....for the most part:o) Tell your wife I understand though. I've been wondering if I could have some underlying disease that is slowly killing off my thyroid or something. I intend to visit my Dr soon but I've also been wondering if I should see a more specilized dr. Do you know if there is a type of dr that deals more with these issues? The autoimmune condition that causes just this pattern is called Hashimoto's disease (or syndrome). There is a lot about this in our archives and on the web. Another possibility is a toxin, such as fluoride or soy, which attacks both the gland and conversion of T4 to T3. Do you have a lot of either in your diet? Guest guest
Carolyn, I forgot to mention, the type of specialist that is supposed to deal with this is an Endocrinologist, with a focus on the endocrine glands. However, many on this list have reported difficulties getting effective treatment from such specialists. I have been well treated, so far, by my GP, but I do think it wise to shop carefully before making a change. Chuck

Guest guest
Chuck - I've been wondering about hashimotos disease. I've read a little online about it and wondered if I could have that. When I was diagnosed 2 years ago my number was 125.8 or something close to that if I remember. I started on 100 mcg a day and worked up to 175 mcg a day. Then I got pregnant and had to bump it up to 200. Shortly after I had the baby I was getting severe headaches every afternoon and the dr determined I was getting too much so she put me back on 175. I was fine for a while but I went back in last December feeling low and asked to be checked again. I think it was 8.25 or something so I got put back on 200 mcg a day. Now I still feel low so I'm going to make an appointment in the next week or so. I think I will talk to her about hashimotos and whatever else could be going on. Maybe I'll ask her if an endocrinologist would be a good idea too. I like my doctor really well, shes great. But I would go just about anywhere if I could feel better. I've got 3 kiddos to keep up with. How long have you had hypoT? You seem to know a lot about it. I don't know anyone in my circle of friends who has it. My mother takes the medicine but her circumstances are different. She had nodules on her thyroid and they killed it off and put her on the meds. Shes had the same dose for years. This up and down stuff makes me crazy. Sorry I'm so wordy. I get carried away when I'm writing. ______________________________________________________________________ Speed up your surfing with NetZero HiSpeed. Now includes pop-up blocker! Guest guest
Carolyn, The main wrinkle you get from Hashi's is that it makes your condition a moving target until all trace of thyroid function is gone. Mine went in one swell foop, so I never had the joy of being hyperT on my way to some semblance of balance. You wrote: > > ... How long have you had hypoT? ... Working on my fourth year, but both my mother and sister have had it for much longer. It is relatively common. I seem to recall an estimate of about 10% of the population will eventually have it. However, it also seems to be much more widespread now and growing. It is not at all clear that that is an effect of increased reporting. We might well be having an epidemic, especially in developed countries. Chuck
Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, You are not alone. This is exactly how I started out. Thought the stress of a new baby was what made me so tired. I kept burning dinner, no matter how I tried I always left something out, put something in, or just forgot about it in the oven. Once your other hormones settle down, you should stabilize a bit. I took synthroid for 11 years with no problems. A few ups and downs, but no major swings. Recently I went hyper and have radically cut my medicine. I am told this is rare, so don't be too concerned. The point is be aware of what your body is doing so you can recognize any big and long-standing swings. And, don't let a doctor tell you it's all in your head when it happens. Too many doctor's out there either aren't educated on this disorder, or just don't care. So you did the right thing joing the group. This topic was what motiviated me to join a chat as well. Sherry > > > Hi - my name is Carolyn. I typically don't join groups and talk to to people I don't know so this is kind of new to me. Excuse me if I'm a little green. > > I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2 years ago. I started having symptoms right after the birth of my second child. But I didn't recognize them as anything other than a post partum induced funky stage. It was 7 months later that I started having serious issues with weakness in my limbs and being very slow feeling. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with my doc after I realized that everytime I turned right in my car I would hit the curb, even when I made an effort not to. I just knew I had a brain tumor or something. Good thing it was just hypo. Anyhow, since then I've been on lots of different doses of Levathroid and can't ever stay in one place for too long. It didn't help that I have since had a 3rd child which complicates getting my dosage right. Now I take 200 mcg a day but I'm not so sure its enough. I'm due for an appointment to check that out. > > I searched out your group so maybe I can learn more about this disease that effects my life more than I ever realized it would.
