Guest guest
This is for subjadex@... but it got kicked back to me. So sorry its long, but I wanted this person to know another way to battle the yeast problem. I was reading the digest and I think (Lyme brain) it was you having the yeast problem or at least wanting to know what antifungals are. Diflucan and Nystatin and Nizoral are all antifungals. Also acidophilus that you can get at any drug store is very important. But I found most helpful was diet. I'm pasting a post I wrote a while ago, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me. The main thing is LOW Carbohydrates & sugar. But you can cheat on occasion, my really disciplining your carb intake for an entire day and then the next day treating yourself. I eat ice cream at least once a week. Here is the basics of what the diet entails: Good luck, this starts out difficult but gets so much easier. Vicki, Md ************* >The trick for me, besides loading up on Acidophilus, yogurt and Nystatin and Diflucan, is >a low carb diet. This means a high protein intake. But it really works. Its >not a healthy diet to stay on for long because you eat a lot of fat. So what >I do is try to limit all my carbohydrates to veggies, but avoid corn and >other high carb veggies. Almost no fruit, until I can't stand it, then I eat >the lowest carb fruit I can find, grapefruit is the best. I also eat low fat >protein as often as possible, like baked skinless chicken, fish, and egg >beaters as opposed to real eggs. I also try turkey bacon and sausage. Anyway >the full diet can be found in Dr. Atkins' " Diet Revolution " , or you can >simply find a little book at most drug stores that give you carb counts for >everything. Also stay away from vinegar, white flour, corn starch, and >sugar! I get sugarless cookies on occasion but you have to limit those too, >because they contain aspartame (which some people say can cause horrible >symptoms). Also sugarless, low fat pudding is wonderful, no fat, no carbs, >and sugarless jello. These are also to help my sweet tooth. My main comfort >foods are peanuts and popcorn. But you have to read the carb count per >serving. Like only one cup of popped popcorn has less than 20 grams of carbs >(low fat also). I have found for me, if I keep my carb intake below 90 grams >a day (30 per meal) I'm okay. But everyone is different. > >I can really tell when I've overdone it with carbs, my tongue gets extra >yucky and the white coating is thicker. And I get nauseous and dizzy, >usually sick for a few hour after I've eaten too many carbs, and have to lay >down for a few hours, feels like the flu. I do occasionally try to eat no >carbs all day, so that I can have one glass of red wine on rare occasions. >The sugar doesn't seem to bother me as much as carbs. Main rule, avoid >potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, and fruit. If you have any more questions, let >me know. And you might want to check with your doctor before trying this. >One added benefit I was surprised at was, after a few months on this diet my >blood pressure went way down and I was able to go off my High blood pressure >medicine. I also lost 12 pounds in two weeks. So be careful there is you >don't want to lose the weight. Also because you don't get all the nutrients >from the fruits, etc, take supplements, like a one a day and lots of Vitamin >C and other antioxidants. A warning, once you lose all the weight, if you go >off this diet, you gain it right back within a matter of days. You have to >start limiting the carbs gradually and find the point or number that helps >you. Like I said 90 grams a day is good for me, but when I first started the >diet, I was eating less than 30 per day, and gradually increased until I >could tell what I could deal with. Oh, another good snack is celery with >cream cheese or peanut butter. Peanut butter has about 5-7 grams of carbs >per two tablespoons, so measure. Cream cheese has non - and you can get low >fat also. One stalk of celery only has 1-2 grams. So you see, you have to >pay close attention to all the carbs. I eat salads with small amounts of >cucumbers, celery and carrots, but no tomatoes. Then I pile it up with hard >boiled eggs, imitation bacon bits, and sometimes chicken, or ham. All meats >and cheese have no carbs (some cheeses do, but not many usually only the ones that say " Cheese Food " instead of " pasteurized Cheese " ). If you need >specific carb amounts in specific foods, just let me know. its easy on most >foods, because its on the package, but with fruits, etc., its more >difficult. Good luck, sorry this is so long, but it really works. I was >sorry when I stopped the diet, because my thrush got real bad. Also don't >forget to get low fat yogurt, the regular is loaded with carbs. Hope this >helps, good luck.
