OK, I'm asking what may seem like dumb questions to a lot of you, but

I'm new to all this...what does LLMD stand for? My family physician

keeps referring me to Infectious Disease specialists, and I may need

to travel up north (I live in SC) to find a better dr.

I'm not real sure what to look for. I just found an IDS here who has

2 lyme's patients. Yippee, most drs around here have never treated

it before!

Thanks,

Jenni

Jenni, I'll give you a brief description of LLMD and why Dr H went to

court. Others can fill in better than I later on LOL

Just because a Dr can or will treat Lyme does not make them an LLMD=Lyme

Literate Dr. Inf Dis Drs usually think that 6-8 weeks antibiotics and your

cured, this is NOT right, many of us have been treated for years. The longer

you went undiagnosed, the longer the treatment. Drs B+H went to court

because they treat ALOT of Lymies with long term antibiotics. The guy that

named Lyme Disease thinks that he knows all there is to know about Lyme, he

states that its an easy cure and 'rare'. That Dr has the ear of the powers

that be and has told them that he is right and the LLMDs are wrong. Thus the

court fights and also alot of us going years undiagnosed because dr think

" its rare and its not here " .

Jenni, you need to see an LLMD and not waste your time with other Drs. This

sounds harsh I know, but it is the truth. Someone here might be in your area

and be able to help you out. Take care, Pepi/

Hi, Jenni,

LLMD stands for " Lyme Literate MD " - a doctor who has experience in

diagnosing and treating Lyme Disease. Many Infectious Disease doctors

(probably the majority!) are NOT LLMDs. It is crucial to find an LLMD

because research on Lyme testing and diagnosis is in a state of flux, and

there is enormous controversy over what causes a positive vs. negative

result on the Western Blot test and how to treat Lyme effectively. Only

an LLMD can be trusted to make a accurate diagnosis and help you really

get better. I know, it sounds weird, I always thought Lyme was a

straightforward disease to diagnose and treat, but it's not! For example,

most Infectious Disease docs will tell you that after 4 weeks on

antibiotics, you should be cured of your Lyme. We now know this is not

true, but many Primary Care and Infectious Disease docs still go by the

old, conservative, outdated guidelines and won't prescribe additional

treatment, even as your symptoms return. It is very, very important to

find an LLMD. To start finding out more, I suggest looking at

www.lymenet.org and www.lymealliance.org. I believe there is a number

listed there to call for LLMDs in your state. Also, someone on the

List may know. Check out the archives and links, too - if you

are subscribed to this list you can access the informative links there.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes and wellness,

Marie
