Guest guest
Honoring All Hallow's Eve: Divination and Tools of Intuition As far back as the 14th century, divination was considered the art or practice that would seek to foresee or foretell future events. Discoveries of hidden knowledge, usually by the interpretation of omens or by the assistance of supernatural powers was how it was perceived. Today, the idea is not so different. Divination is considered unusual insight or intuitive perception. As intuitive beings, we often tend to let go of or loose sight of this ability as we age. Children are extremely intuitive and utilize this ability daily. As we grow older, it seems that we tend not to trust these feelings, images or concepts from our mind's eye. They almost seem odd, irrational or just something that is hard to believe. The Art of Scrying, or another words, tapping into the supersensory powers of your subconscious, are just other ways of "paying attention"! Divination itself can take various forms, including: 1. The direct observation of events, which have not (yet) occurred, such as scrying. 2. The interpretation of patterns formed by objects or on surfaces. This included the reading of tea-leaves and palmistry. 3. The selection of objects with meanings assigned to them by some form of random processes such as from a bag or deck of cards. This would include the runes and I-Ching. While divination is often a structured and methodical process it is never a purely rational one for it depends on the awakening of (latent) psychic abilities. In adopting a divinatory tool, such as the runes, pendulums, crystals, color or which ever tool you choose, you are taking on both a support and a burden. They bring with them certain responsibilities. It is one thing to divinate for yourself, but the big responsibility comes when you are working for others. Learn your craft and learn it well. Crystal Runes Runes are an alphabetic script used by the Nordic and Germanic tribes of Northern Europe from the first century until well into the Middle Ages. A rune is not merely a letter in an old Germanic alphabet, but it bears the primary definition of "secret" or "mysteries." There were many different runic alphabets in use throughout Northern Europe over the centuries. The most common is the Germanic or Elder Futhark. In addition to their use as a written alphabet, the runes also served as a system of symbols used for magic and divination. This system may have begun as early as 200 B.C.E. The Elder Futhark contains 24 letters divided into three groups of eight, called Ætt (aettir, plural). The first eight is called Freyja's Ætt, the second Heimdall's Ætt and the third Tyr's Ætt. As such, they were inscribed on materials such as stone, bone and wood in order to be used. The Roman alphabets became the preferred script of most of Europe, but the Runes forms and meaning were preserved in inscriptions and manuscripts. Crystal Pendulums The pendulum can be thought of as an extension of the intuition, since it is used to gain access to information that exists at the subconscious level. As an extension of the intuition, the pendulum can give you information from the same two sources as the intuition: from your own subconscious mind; and from your guidance, spirit, or guardian angel. Pendulums are wonderful for healing Chakra work, communication work and making a Choice of any kind! Scrying is the psychological technique of unearthing or recovering information by extra-sensory, intuitive or psychic means. It is about clearing your view of the unconscious mind and translating its images, sounds and sensations into our conscious knowledge. There are many forms of scrying, from Ouija boards, dowsing rods, pendulums and aura readings to reading tea leaves, tarot, dream interpretations, biorhythms and handwriting analysis. I intend to introduce below some of the techniques that I have found most helpful as well as insightful. Crystals for scrying include: Crystal Ball Clear Quartz is an excellent all seeing stone, which is thought to amplify both body energy and thoughts. It can assist in the creation of power, clarity of thinking, meditation, cleansing, clearing the aura, spiritual development and healing. Clear Quartz is considered the "stone of power". A dedicated healer. Pure white light passes through it easily, leaving all the colors of the spectrum unaltered and giving substance to the argument that Clear Quartz crystals can help balance all the elements needed to make us whole and fulfilled. Amplify whatever influences are present in an individual or location. Acts as a purifier and tunes into the frequency of each individual. Will unblock specific areas or organs blocked from transmitting or receiving the flow of energy throughout the body. Helpful in guiding our search for the meaning and importance of existence. This stone will attune the treatment to the energy of an individual person. Snow River Quartz Used for seeing into the future and discovering our congenital past, these clear quartz balls are amazing in their clarity on the inside and covered with a beautiful white frost on the outside. The ends are sliced off so that you can see into it's deep translucent center. These "picture window" crystals are originally from the riverbeds of Brazil. The crystals are washed down out of the mountains and tumbled over and over by violent surging waters. This natural process gives the crystals their frosted look. They are the "gazing" stone. Candle Therapy is the basis of this work, using light, color and intention as the driving force. Geomancy is the study of figures on the ground and the influence of the Earth's "currents". This art of Feng Shui is another great way to create balance in your life. Astrology is most famous and is divination using celestial bodies: the sun, moon, planets, and stars. Cartomancy is fortune telling using cards such as the Tarot. Augury is the general term for the art of divination and is chiefly applied to interpretations of signs and omens. Oneiromancy is the art of divination by interpreting dreams . The I Ching is one of the oldest books on divination and is most famous in Chinese culture and made even more popular in Western culture today.
