Guest guest
Hi all, Kathy H. wrote: I know the March protocol includes relaxation; perhaps this is because many of our kids have other comorbid anxiety disorders, e.g. PTSD which can get in the way of doing E & RP successfully. Dr. Hat had us do quite a bit of relaxation exercises with Kelsey when we first started CBT including deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. I remember that on our first visit with him, he pointed out how her legs were trembling and said she was " vibrating " with anxiety. We did the relaxation exercises each morning and night for the first few weeks before starting E & RP while he worked on the " cognitive " component with her. The idea was to bring down her general anxiety level which had spiked because of the constant OCD attacks. So I think the relaxation can be a good aid in doing successful CBT. Take care, in San Diego
