Guest guest
I was on Flagyl 500 mg. three times a day for 3 months and 250 mg. per day for a few weeks. I did find potato chips helped with the taste. My doctor also knew that it was most important to use the brand name - I remember that taste was an issue, I don't know if there was any other reason. Certain other meds I have found in the past do not work as well if I use the generic. One generic anxiety medication dissolved very slowly and took a long time to be effective. I generally get the name brand if I can afford it. Flagyl and Tinidazole can both produce dark moods, so I found it helpful just to automatically go on a lite dose of anti-depressant a.m. and p.m. Since I react adversely to the newer antidepressants (those years of having lyme and not being tested, told its " all in my head " ) - and don't even ask me about Prozac (know it works for some, also can well believe the recent story that it is responsible for over 50,000 suicides plus who knows what else people do and stay alive) - I use the antidepressant Pamelor, an older one. Throughout Flagyl and even now on Tinidazole and antibiotics (Doxy/Biaxin) an anti-anxiety drug i.e. Ativan, Xanax is very important for me. I am able to stay married and avoid the " Mommie Dearest " act with an anti-anxiety medication, also light but just enough. The point of my message here, though, and I hope my doc is not reading, even though it happened before this doc, is that *when my body started to really object to the Flagyl I backed off.* I didn't take one dose here and there. Sometimes I skipped a whole day. I then felt better and more able to tolerate it. I also heard to watch the liver enzymes and I was religious with milk thistle. One time I was not and I did get pain and leg swelling. So I just listened to what my body was saying. Its hard, sometimes it is saying " Get me out of here, take me to PUerto Rico " or something but I don't mean that type of message.
