I've heard some reports that after a person signed up with Grouply, other people started receiving spam emails from their grouply email address. Unfortunately I can't really comment too much on this as I haven't personally experienced anything like it, but my warning stands - give out your passwords and take your chances. Your password also controls your eMail, so who's to stop anyone from using your mail system for evil? After all, you gave out your password of your own free will. It appears that one of the biggest concerns is from group owners with good reason. It seems that the archives of can be made available to the public through the individuals members sharing them within Grouply. It doesn't matter at all if a group is set so that only members can access archives, if a group member makes it available on Grouply, it's available to anyone and everyone through that website. Which also brings up another security risk - by providing Grouply with your password, Group Owners are also giving Grouply full access to their group admin sections. Now please keep in mind that anyone can save messages in their email clients, be that online or offline, but the problem with Grouply is that these saved messages will be made available to any other members in the user's social circle - even if they are not members of the group. In fairness however, Grouply has come up with an `Opt-Out' function, where Group Owners can remove their group's posts from inclusion within the Grouply system, but in order to take advantage of this my understanding is that the group owner will have to join Grouply!! For me personally, I'd rather try to plug the internet security holes and not give anyone a crack at identity theft. ==================================================================== http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?p=508572 States... There are a few new services coming online which are social " networking " sites similar to My Space and Facebook. One of these new services is called " Grouply " . Grouply is tapping lists and reposting the messages to Grouply members. As soon as ONE list member joins this service, all of our messages will then be archived by Grouply. Grouply changes your email address to (yourname)@grouply. com. for the purpose of your list mail only. They will also go into your account and change all of your preferences regarding how you view your mail, whether you get individual posts or digests, and whether you can be directly added to any of a million other groups. In order to do this, Grouply requires that you give them your ID and password. I am truly hoping that most of our members are smart enough not to hand over that information to ANYONE--especially to another web service! There is no guarantee that this information that Grouply is aggregating is secure, thus leaving your sign-in info available to spammers and hackers--including all of our list files and photos. At this point, there is no way for us to block Grouply's access to our list (although that is being worked on). Until there is, I will be checking daily for list members who may have innocently joined Grouply. I will be unsubbing and banning them, plus making direct contact with them explaining why we will not allow this in our membership. They will be welcome to rejoin once they unsub from Grouply. ===================================================================== The 'Good " Also..... http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/shopablogic/post.htm?id=63003043 Things They Are Working On For Newer Versions Such As NOT Having To Enter Your ID And Password......
