Guest guest
It is important to disseminate the protest announcement to local press, support groups, and friends and neighbors of lyme disease sufferers. Please do your local papers the courtesy of sending them the release and following up with a phone call. Or e-mail me where to electronically send them the press release and I will do it. In communicating to your friends and groups, be aware that a major media group has expressed the wish to cover the event and that decision is contingent on an RSVP from us with an approx number who will be attending (they don't want just 13 of us). If you are able, please contact me by Saturday with a head count. By Sunday there may be a website for this protest. I went on a reconnaisance mission today! The Hotel Pierre has two main entrances with canopies on 5th avenue. We will be both on 5th avenue and 61st street, according to the lieutenant who permitted this event (all bases covered). The area we will be picketing is across the street from the beginning of Central Park and there are many benches to sit and rest on. It is in an area of many stores and restaurants with bathrooms. Both 60th and 61st street are one way towards Central Park and 5th avenue is one way downtown. You would probably come up Madison, which is one way uptown, and turn on left on 60th or 61st and park at the public parking garage if you are driving. There are buses which run up Madison, too, and the Hotel Pierre is only one block over, on 5th avenue between 60th and 61st. I think you need to get off at the 57th street stop, don't think there is one at 60th. It is a short walk along Trump Towers and stores! You can take a bus or train to the city and catch a cab from there. It would be 4 - 5$ but grab someone with a green ribbon and split! All arrangements with 19th precinct have been made. This is an extremely important event. It is necessary for us to build on the momentum The New York Times article generated. It is also necessary for us to bluntly link our medical problems, symptoms, and the effects on our lives to the insistence by Steere that 30 days cures Lyme disease. We need to state on signs why we object to this person being honored. As I said, we need to Paint A Human Canvas of Lyme Disease Suffering so that people will understand that in the face of this, an award is inappropriate. Anyway I hope you will make some calls and contacts and RSVP to me and encourage one another to attend. This is a rather impromptu gathering which came about as a response to the article and the ALDF event. I hope we can compensate for the lack of lead time with enthusiastic broadcast of the need for lyme sufferers and their supporters, family and friends, to be there and be counted. Someone asked " can they chant? " Whatever it takes to get you there! Any questions, contact Jeannine Der Bedrosian (e-mail above)
