Guest guest
Here's a quote from Raintree's site which implies that boiling for 20 minutes WOULD extract the active chemicals: QUOTE: 12/2/2005 -- I seem to have read somewhere that you don't recommend the use of pau d'arco capsules. Why is that? Thank you. Response From Raintree Nutrition: Some of the active ingredients in pau d'arco are a group of naphthoquinone chemicals. These are not very water soluble and are hard to get out of the bark. These chemicals can not be broken down in the digestive tract and absorbed, so taking pau d'arco capsules will provide few, if any of these chemicals. To extract them, you must boil the bark in water for at least 20 minutes or extract them in alcohol. We employ both heat and alcohol for our pau d'arco extract to make sure we get as much of these active chemicals out of the bark and into our extract. Best, Alan Wallace Practitioner Advisor /END QUOTE/------- ----- So, i'll go back to boiling my decoction, not being an alcohol enthusiast. Thank you, Selma and others, for your informative recipes. ----from Purple
