Do you have trouble with any other nightshades? (potatoes, tomatoes,

etc.)

> Anyone ever had trouble with their throat swelling up from eating

eggplant?

I think we've determined it to be a bacterial infection, not the eggplant. But

one of my friends can't eat eggplant, and I'd eaten it several days in a row. I

finally talked with him, though, and he says his happens quickly, while he's

still at the table.

swelling looks like puffyness where spasms often look like a smaller airway but

little to no puffyness. Its often hard to tell when looking down a throat unless

youre very experienced like a ENT doc.

My older son (EMT) says he doesnt care what it is--if the airway is closing he

acts!!

I hope I didnt confuse you but, Throat swelling with puffyness may be a

generalized reaction too,so you cant for certain say " allergy " etc--the mucous

membrane tissues are very sensitive

(mouth, throat, nose etc) and so its hard even for a Dr to 'tell " if its allergy

or a local irritation--in the minds of a Dr looking at the symptom they usually

try to keep the airway open and guess at a treatment often grabbing benadryl. " in

case "

But to be sure they will do blood tests, allergy tests (injecting tiny bits)?and

or a challenge--giving you a tiny bit of what you think did it and seeing the

reaction.

sometimes you have an itchy feeling in the mouth/throat which is higher

liklihood of allergy

IF anything causes moderate to major, throat swelling I personally dont care

what its called,( true allergy or not)?I dont often chance doing it again

?

depends on the amount of swelling, and how uncomofrtable I am

sorry Robin the final answer is its hard to tell for sure.
