Guest guest
It is probably too early to have him tested. & nbsp; But I sure hope you stopped the breastfeeding, the sooner the better. & nbsp; As it is inconclusive yet, some do believe the disease can be transferred that way. & nbsp; Jim. ### From: chlobot & lt;erikncarren@... & gt; Subject: [ ] Is my baby screwed? Guest guest
Hi, There is debate among researchers whether or not Lyme can be transmitted thru breast milk. I'm sure there are people who will tell you that it is a certainty, but check out the credentials of who tells you what. I am not a scientist, my reading of the research indicates that they just don't know. So I would say, NO it is not a foregone conclusion. As far as having your baby tested, I am not familiar with the testing of babies. I do know that with adults, a positive test does indicate Lyme, a negative test does NOT rule it out. As far as herbs, again, I don't know anything about herbs and the baby. Perhaps you could ask Buhner that. Someone on this list should be able to tell you if is now answering questions on Planet Thrive. As you try to figure out this difficult question, I suggest you do anything you can to keep your baby's immune system in very good shape. And if it were me, I would be very wary of getting vaccinations, as they can affect baby's immune system. Hope this helps some. ellen -- In , " chlobot " <erikncarren@...> wrote: > > I was bit a month ago & am now having symptoms. I've been > breastfeeding this whole time. Guest guest
Ellen, borrelia is proved to be found in breast milk, vaginal fluids and semen. The most famous publication about breast milk is: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7648832 Whether one gets infected after drinking this contaminated milk or after making sex we are not sure, but I would take the careful side just as safety. I test energetically non-pasteurized milk I receive from local farmers, from goat and sheep. I never found borrelia in goat milk so far, but I often find borrelia in sheep milk. Sheep are very much loved by ticks. Contaminated milk test strong as 'no' for all my family: a strong 'don't take this'. I warm it until they test ok, then prepare yoghurt and consume. Guest guest
I don't really know if it is transmitted through breast milk, but I definitely wouldn't stop breastfeeding. It may be that you are giving your baby spirochetes, but I am sure that the breast milk is the best thing for keeping him/her strong. My children have lyme, I think, I had it when I carried them so I would guess that is when they got it. I am not testing my children, because I am pretty sure and the tests are expensive. I am just treating them gently and if they show more symptoms as they grow, I will treat them as strongly as their little bodies will allow. I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Guest guest
IF as you say, YOU PROBABLY gave your kids Lyme, & nbsp; WHY would you encourage someone else to keep breastfeeding? & nbsp; WHY? & nbsp; Jim. ### From: dawnof77 & lt;dawnof77@... & gt; Subject: [ ] Re: Is my baby screwed? Guest guest
that study Selma posted--concluded that URINE testing can be used for PCRs for Lyme--and ONLY 2 women with bullseye rahses even had breast milk that tested positive--period and since then, scant studies about it.No comparison's of other's with neg milk etc what that means is that its POSSIBLE to have spirochetes in breast milk but NOT the likelihood, or the amount. PLUS no one has shown that the baby swallowing those chetes can be INFECTED--the baby may simply digest them...and MANY studies show that for infection the chetes have to go thru another host and go thru changes in that hosts system ( i,e the tick's gut/glands). to be infective meaning able to be passed along and cause harm. so is it possible for the Lyme to be in breats milk?? yes...what does that mean??? who knows!!!! but its NOT " proven " that its a way to infect others by any stretch of the imagination. as Selma correctly pointed out presence doesnt guarantee infection. would I breastfeed..NO--for me too big a risk but for YOU it also means youre baby isnt necessarily? " screwed " . Im more worried about what drugs and/or herbs youre taking that easily passes into milk!!! thats a much bigger risk!! for that reason alone Id stop nursing ( and Im so pro nursing I was a La Leche team leader!!!) Guest guest
I have seen postings where people said their babies had lyme, and some had breastfed and some had not. With all the knowledge I have come across, I say breastfead. It improves immunity, and every baby needs that. Plus, if you were to read about formula, you will find that its full of neuro-toxins, BT from GMO and MSG, yes MSG. Its awful. Plus the horrendous gmo hormones they give cows which goes into their milk. Breastfead. Heidi N **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008.
