Guest guest
I really agree with the deep resting and keeping stress as far away as possible. I've used Holy Basil, DHEA, and Pregnenolone to help my adrenals. As well as using compounded Estrogen and Progesterone. I believe my adrenals are doing better because I've been able to drop the Estrogen. I'm hoping eventually I'll be able to drop all the hormones, but for now they really make a difference. Connie [ ] Re: OT: Adrenals There are many ways to rebuild the adrenals: learning to balance the parasympathetic nervous system with the sympathetic nervous system seems to be an important priority. This includes a lot of rest, meditation, deep relaxation. Minimizing stress as much as possible. I'm surprised sometimes when i hear people say that watching t.v. or being on a computer consititutes rest.....it really doesn't when it comes to deeply stopping the mind and body and finding nourishment from within. There's nothing wrong with doing things that are fun, and each of us has our ways of doing that, but i would not confuse " fun " with the deep rest that is needed to recharge the adrenals. Some of the things i find helpful are: (sorry dear vegan friends) eating small amounts of animal protein throughout the day (yes, i miss being a vegan, yet realized it wasn't working for this body)..... eating very nutrient-rich foods, small amounts frequently. Putting my feet on the earth, spending time in quiet and in nature. Rhodiola Rosea Eleuthero tincture Ashwagandha (if it tests positive....i find muscle testing helpful to discern this) and some of the nutrients that others have mentioned in various supplement combinations. Then there are other herbs that help to calm and support the nervous system, such as skullcap, oatseed or oat straw, licorice root for some people, nettles, wood betony, blue vervain. The list goes on. Then there are more subtle levels of paying attention. Really listening to what is it that nourishes (on any level) and what is it that is draining? I find that saying " yes " to aliveness and well being often means saying " no " to things that don't feel calming and supportive. Quiet and rest seem to be the most nourishing for this body recently. Peace, ease.....and deep rest.... yarrow
Guest guest
I think so... But I'm not exactly sure what " post " means. Guest guest
Vicki, I have tried a couple of times to stop the bio's but realllllly noticed that I still needed them. Have you had a comprehensive blood test by a dr that will prescribe the meds? The dr and I keep trying to lower meds but after a short time, the estrogen needs to go back up. Basically, getting off the compounded hormones starts with how you feel when you don't take them. If you feel " quite lovely " then you're good to go unless the doc thinks other wise. Me, I'm not ready to give them up quite yet. Maybe when my thyroid and bugs get on the same page I can reduce them again. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of vljoop Sent: Thursday, December 23, 2010 8:45 PM Subject: [ ] Re: OT: Adrenals Is it possible to get off compounded hormones if you're post menopausal? Guest guest
I never had hot flashes, which I attribute to the use of Vitex-chasteberry, beginning before menopause & continuing after... [ ] Re: OT: Adrenals Vicki, re: " I know many women who go through menopause and eventually get over the hot flashes without hormones. " I had the worst hot flashes and sweating with menopause. I'd open the window in the middle of the window, and next minute I'd have the heat on and be under a blanket with the chills. I'd tell myself just wait, cuz the flas would soon turn into a chill, but the changes in temperature were so intense I was always opening and closing windows. And it surprised me bec. I had gone thru my many menstrals over the years with little discomfort. So I had expected to sail thru menopause. As some women do. I didn't entertain taking hormones bec. some of the hormones come with increased risk of various cancers, as well as stroke and heart disease. I tried many many herbs to no avail. Finally, what worked for me was when I read that in Japanese they have no word for hot flashes. So - even tho I know there are problems with eating too much soy, I started eating soy products instead of chicken. (Unless organic, chickens have hormones, so perhaps that was affecting me.) Finally my hot flashes and drenching sweats went away. I also found that drinking coffee increased the hot flashes, but I was never able to totally give that up. good luck to you in finding something that works. ellen > > > > > > Vicki, I have tried a couple of times to stop the bio's but realllllly > > > noticed that I still needed them.
