It is impossible to kill specific (pathogenic) bacteria with this kind of products, and I don't think anyone has really checked as that would be very expensive (and knowledge about all the different gut bacteria is relatively recent anyway). There are a few herbs that are more specific, e.g. those based on quorum sensing mechanism. These usually don't kill but make the bacteria less pathogenic; and even these herbs will also harm some beneficial bacteria.
Guest guest
It is true, unfortunatley we really can't kill off the yeast. From what we have read and experienced we must nourish and support the body to reestablish the flora through strict diet and support. I just mentioned that those things were helpful to us, and even my 4yo tolerated them. On Bee's site, she used to recommend oregano oil, and no longer does...she is pretty strict. We used it back when she still recommended it and did well with it. I guess everyone's case is different. We always use the natural antiobiotics in the morning and then probiotics at night before bed. That just worked for us. Now that Lyme and babesia seem to be a bigger problem than candida for us...I am sure things will change and we are in new territory. We have not been on antiobiotic therapy yet for lyme or co's....which I dread. As far as melatonin being helpful, we found that it helped restful sleep and detoxification which may or may not be helpful in this situation. We use only a natural, not synthetic brand. We seem to have restless nights and fatigue with die-off and finally decided to just go with it after months of suffering. In our case, we are totally grain and sugar free in our house. The only sweeteners we use are a little stevia and a little raw honey...that is it (each diet supports a different sweetener,so we just did what worked for us). We don't even use starches like baked or sweet potatoes. It is in both the gaps diet and bee's diet. It is strict, but it is the only thing that I think cured our digestion issues in our house for our son. It even helped with depression, lethargy, and weight loss. Both GAPS and Bee's diets have candida elimination food lists and recipes to make it a little less confusing. Thanks for the dialogue, ANne
