Guest guest
Why are you taking so much? I take ONE 00 size capsule of Milk Thistle, TWO times a day. Never more than that. However I also take Red Root tincture TWO times a day. Jim. ### rasheedaas <rasheedaas@...> wrote: Duh! I've been taking milk thistle according to the package directions, and it finally dawned on me - the package directions for some of Buhner's herbs that I was taking 12 a day of, was probably for 4 a day. What I'm taking says: 180 mg blessed thistle and 175 mg of milk thistle extract - per capsule. I been taking 4 a day, just upped it to 8. Those of who who take milk thistle, how much do you take? thanks, ellen --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi Ellen both Evan and I simply do what pkg says and we both seem to do fine But then again Im still on peds dosages for most stuff anyway Ive found that often the OTC stuff ( herbs, supps, even vitamins)all underdoses for safety and lawsuit reasons...and its a " minimally effective " not max safe dose. BUT there are many types of substances that without professional guidance you really shouldnt experiment with larger than " recommended as safe " dosages. Im unsure if milk thistle falls into this category. As its now used mainstream for hepatitis, and cirrhosis, perhaps check and see what dosing those pts use?? Im guessing it may be larger?? good luck Finette > > Duh! > I've been taking milk thistle according to the package directions, and > it finally dawned on me - the package directions for some of Buhner's > herbs that I was taking 12 a day of, was probably for 4 a day. > What I'm taking says: 180 mg blessed thistle and 175 mg of milk > thistle extract - per capsule. > I been taking 4 a day, just upped it to 8. > > Those of who who take milk thistle, how much do you take? > > thanks, > ellen >
Guest guest
I have a question -- I'm pretty sensitive to most things I try. So I thought I'd try milk thistle. I took the smallest amount of it in a capsule. Result: I threw up - couldn't even keep it down. Do some bodies just not want to do things they're just not used to? - Thx - Robin **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
I, and 5 of my kids have been taking milk thistle for over a year. We take anywhere from 75 mg a day to over 1,000 mg a day. I change it depending upon the strain to the liver. Like right now we are doing high doses of Vitamin A for virus cleansing, so we are on higher doses. My liver is in bad shape, so I take the most. One can look at their stools and see if they are brown, green or white, to see where their liver is. We have never had any side effects from milk thistle in the least. Not anything of any sort, and we usually do have side effects at least when initially starting a new supplement. Milk thistle appears to help our toxin load a little and that's all I notice from it. I would not use it as a stand alone therapy, but in conjunction with other supplements, one can improve their health very noticeably. Heidi N **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
I take 300 - 600 mg per day of metabolic maintainence which is standardized. I also take alpha lipioic acid and NAC and my liver has performed quite well during the various treatments I have undertaken. That is the triple combo that has been recommended by various docs that seems to work well. Guest guest
Heidi, you mention stools, and I've noticed in the last week since I've been treating my liver exhaustion and/or liver, my stools are unusually dark. almost black. I seemed to remember this means something but can't remember what. Do you know? thanks, ellen > > I, and 5 of my kids have been taking milk thistle for over a year. Guest guest
Thanks, Craig, My bottle says it contains: 180 mg Blessed Thistle and 175 mg Milk Thistle extract (seed) 80% silymarin. Do you know if blessed thistle is a different herb than milk thistle, or a different form? thanks, ellen > > > > Hi Ellen > > > > both Evan and I simply do what pkg says and we both seem to do fine > > > > But then again Im still on peds dosages for most stuff anyway > > > > Ive found that often the OTC stuff ( herbs, supps, even vitamins) > all > > underdoses for safety and lawsuit reasons...and its a " minimally > > effective " not max safe dose. > > > > BUT there are many types of substances that without professional > > guidance you really shouldnt experiment with larger > than " recommended > > as safe " dosages.
