Guest guest
hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has had this symptom with babesia: I get suddenly weak and hungry, and even after I've eaten more than I usually do for a meal I feel it. It's not exactly hunger, but a gnawing feeling. Feels like something to do with my hypogycemia, but at the same time I'm noticing a resurgence of sudden hot flashes. (NOT menopause - I had that 10 yrs ago!). I associate these hot flashes with babesia which I had after Lyme diagnosis, and then babesia had gone away, or at least the symptoms did. Thanks for any input. ellen
Guest guest
Ellen, I get this symptom really bad. It always seems weird to me also that I get the hypoglycemic feeling after I eat. I have to sit on the couch and rest for an hour and usually it gets better but I have had times where it just last into the morning. I hope you feel better. Guest guest
Ellen Interesting that you would write about this! I have experienced it but it never occured to me to ask if others had it; just seemed so idiocyncratic I thought it was 'just me.' It also is hard to describe. My own explanation for it was that my body was not using the food effectively, not converting it into fuel so I continued to feel 'hungry' for energy. I, of course, don't really know why it happens but that was the only explanation I could come up with. it doesn't happen a lot,and hasn't happened for a long time, so its hard to get a fix on. Thanks for writing about it, and others who also experience it. Makes me know again I'm not 'weird,' just dealing with weird bugs. jo > > hi all, > I'm wondering if anyone has had this symptom with babesia: > I get suddenly weak and hungry, and even after I've eaten more than I > usually do for a meal I feel it. Guest guest
Please consider yeast. It can cause symptoms after eating and caused hot flashes during the day in a patient I know. Amphotericin is what thelped this person I know, as well as a very low carb diet, nystatin pills and lozenges, and probitotics. Guest guest
Hi Ellen Altho Im Lyme and Bart positive ( never so far Babs) I was getting these a lot- still am tho less frequent,, and when they gave me a glucometer it turns out it WAS almost 90% 'hypoglycemia'!! ( I?had after 1-2 hrs of a meal with 40-50 gm complex carbs dropping to 50-55 sugar!!) IF you can, monitor yourself, a few times a week 1.5-2 hrs post meal, and also if or when sx with Rx you can get them FREE--and strips and lancets are covered by insurance the other 10% time my sugars were low normal so not truly " hyoglycemic " BUT I found that those times they had still DROPPED quickly after rising. So now Im going to an endocrinologist in about 2 weeks, it MAY be that Im pumping out too much insulin---for me maybe due to the dysautonomia IF your drops are fast or steep , even though sugar stays within low normals, you may be sensitive to that. Most people go up or down about 40-50 pts.over time. Normal fasting of 75-95/100 jumps to about 120-150 2 hrs after meals, then slwoly drops over another 2-3 hrs back to a little below normal then rises back to normal over another 45-75 minutes ( at least according to 2 of my medical physiology texts) I know MY sugars can go after meals to about 130 BUT then DROP?to 65-75 VERY fast and its this quick drop that causes me sx.despite it not being true low BS. Autonomic system problems?( " dysautonomia')can also give these and other sx including sweats/warmth, red faces, ( flushing but not in the menopausal sense), cold sweats, dry mouth or hyper salivation; sudden weakness, shakes etc? AND according to Mayo and MCO and Vanderbilt Lyme and other TBD are now accepted as of the types of infections that can trigger autonomic stuff!!! If theyd only also agree to the possibility of CHRONIC Lyme ( smile) HOW can anyone tell the diff between this and " real " hypoglycemia ( endocrine vs autonomic)??? so far Ive been told you cant. too much overlap in feedback and control systems. Id suggest that you Monitor and get used to warning sx and then carry carbs!! thats the advice Ive been getting!!! bummer Plus with actual numbers from a glucometer they cant doubt your sx are due to a physiological level thats out of whack. Also IF you find that your sugars arent all that low, and not dropping too fast, then you know to check other causes. I've noticed in my experience, the all lyme/babesia symptoms worsen whenever sugar or alcohol of any kind are consumed, so I think it is this on top of the hypoglycemia that makes the symptoms go nuts. I've heard from other's that experience this as well. We think the main reason is simply because any sugar/alcohol will suppress your immune system to some degree, and when it comes to having lyme + co-infections, we are all immune compromised. I would recommmend sticking to a high protein/high veggie diet for a while and eliminate refined sugar, alcohol, and caffeine until the babesia is more under control. You'll feel better and the hypoglcemia wont be as bad after a while of doing this diet. If you drink regular coffee, be sure to keep it at 1 cup a day and consume on a full stomache . Guest guest
Ellen, I am also familiar with these weird feelings of hunger like feelings and I was going to say, sounds like something not right with the glucose mechanism, but you already thought that too. Maybe the germs want to be fed. Who knows. I also get these odd hot flash like feelings, weakness and nausea at times. I think it is something not right with my hormones, even though I am still pre menopausal. When I first got sick, I felt so weird I kept taking pregnancy tests, which of course were negative, but I did have all these strange feelings when I was pregnant too, like always being hungry, like there is not enough food in the world, weakness and dizziness, hot flash like feelings. I wonder wether the thyroid is affected by Lyme or Babesia. My primary physician is just checking my thyroid hormone levels too since my cycles were totally off since I was sick. So I really do not have much knowledge on what this is, but I know what you mean with the strange symptoms. I hope they go away. Also, please tell your doctor, maybe someone knows why this is going on. Dagmar **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. Guest guest
I hve babesia and I had this. It has gone away, but my digestive tract is now a wreck, so... I also had the hot flashes and my gyno as freaked out by my symptoms saying thats basically no hot flash that she knew of. I would have the spasms with it that I just posted about. I wonder if its bartonella or lyme or babesia or something else in the critter category messing with blood vessels.. and anutoimune or inflammatory response? Guest guest
--Thanks for this info, Finette. I've been turning over in mind whether or not to go get a glucose test, your info has made up my mind. I'll let you know what turns up. ellen - In , FinRussak@... wrote: > > > Hi Ellen > > > > Altho Im Lyme and Bart positive ( never so far Babs) > I was getting these a lot- still am tho less frequent,, and when they gave me a glucometer it turns out it WAS almost 90% 'hypoglycemia'!! Guest guest
Thank you Athena, and others who have responded to my question. Athena, yes I have discovered it makes a big difference drinking that caffein on an empty stomach or full! I'm trying to drink as little as possible, and drinking it later in the day seems to help. Of course when I want it, is as soon as I get out of bed. :> ellen Hi Ellen, > > I had it confirmed that I have Babesia and I had extremely > hypoglycemia ever since I got sick.
